1. Application
The lanyard is part of personal protective gear for fall protection and should belong to the user personally. It
consists of a middle man safety band (length approx. 500 mm) as well as a snap hook and an oval ring as an
end connection. The snap hook is attached to the back catch eyelet on the harness and the oval ring can be
connected to another component of an interception system. The connection between a safety harness (back
safety eyelet) and, for example, a rescue device is made possible with the adapter without help from the
outside. Lanyards without shock absorbers may not be used in or as a harness system.
2. Use
The karabiner hook is made of aluminum with a latch that opens inward. The latch is equipped with an
additional manual lock (a knurled nut) to secure it against accidental opening. In order to open the looked
hook, turn the knurled nut to the left. This will cause it to move down and release the covered area of the hook.
By pressing the latch inward, the karabiner hook can now be opened. One the karabiner hook is hooked into
the rear suspension eyelet of the body harness, release the latch. The hook will close automatically. Securely
lock by turning the knurled nut to the right. The knurled nut will move and will cover a part of the hook. Now
hook the oval ring into the snap hook of the interception system and secure it.
Attention: The total length of a connection means that is connected with a shock absorber, including end
connections and connection elements, must not exceed 2.0 m.
The attachment point must assure a minimum load capacity of 10 kN compliant with EN 795 and should be
above the user. Essential for safety is that the location of the lanyard or the attachment point and the type of
work both be selected so that free fall and the height of the fall are kept to a minimum. At sites where there is
the risk of falling the user must ensure that the formation of slack rope is kept to a minimum. For reasons of
safety it is essential with fall arrest systems to ensure the necessary free space below the user before every use
so that in the event of a fall there can be no collisions with the ground or any other obstacles. Appropriate
precautionary measures must be taken if the risk assessment carried out before starting work shows that in the
event of a fall a load over an edge is possible. With the combination of parts of equipment into a system, it
must always be ensured that the functions of the individual equipment parts are not adversely affected. In an
arrester system, only a body harness compliant with EN361 may be used as a body suspension system. Two
individual lanyards each with a shock absorber must not be used arranged in parallel.
Fasteners with self-closing and manually locking locks should only be used if the user does not have to hook
and unhook them too often.
Attention:
Protect the lanyard from objects with sharp edges, welding sparks or other destructive or
damaging hazards.
A load on the connecting element via its closure must be avoided.
Prior to first use the user must be familiarised with the function. For the safety of the user it is important that
he or she has read and understood the user instructions. Before and during use, consideration must be given as
to how potentially necessary rescue operations can be carried out safely, quickly and effectively. The lanyard
may only be used by trained and/or knowledgeable personnel, or the user should be under the direct
supervision of such a person. The lanyard may only be used with the specified use conditions and for the
specified intended use. Health related restrictions such as heart or circulatory problems, regularly taking
medicines, etc. can compromise the user's safety when working aloft.
There must be a rescue plan on hand in which all emergencies that can occur during work are taken into
account.
If the lanyard is re-sold to another country, the re-seller must provide instructions for use, maintenance, regular
inspection and repair in the national language.
