Plug-in charger with 8 cells and 9V block battery

Intended use
The device is used to charge simultaneously Ni-Cd/NiMH accumulators with 8 cells and a
9V block battery Ni-Cd/NiMH.
The charging current has been preset for both battery types. Operation and service are there-
fore very simple.
The charger charges the connected batteries with constant current. This way accumulators
can be charged that are not quickly rechargeable. This charging process does not only
save the accumulators but also guarantees a good power density because of the steady
charging.
Two display lamps indicate the charging process.
The charging has to be stopped manually after a certain time (depending on the size of the
accumulator).
It is not permitted to charge batteries (zinc carbon, alkaline, etc.), lead acid chargers and
lithium chargers (Li-Ion, LiPo, etc.).
The charger can only be connected to and operated with 230 V AC voltage. The product is
only to be used in dry indoor locations.
The plug-in charger is overload-proof and short-circuit-proof. A short-circuit or an overload
for a longer period of time may destroy the device. Observe the polarity at the 9V charge
output!
Usage, other than that described above, is not permitted and can damage the product.
Moreover, this can cause a hazard e.g. short-circuit, fire, electric shock, etc.
No part of the product may be modified or rebuilt!
The safety instructions must be followed unconditionally!
Safety instructions
Please read all the instructions before using this device, they include
important information on the correct operation.
The guarantee is rendered invalid when damage is incurred as a result of
non-compliance with the operating instructions! We will not assume any
responsibility for current damage caused in consequence!
We assume no liability for damage to property or persons caused by
improper use or by ignoring the safety instructions! In such cases the
guarantee will lapse.
Due to safety and license reasons it is not permitted to make alterations and/or changes to
the electric appliances on own authority.
Chargers and the rechargeable batteries that are connected to it should not be operated
unattended.
To ensure safe operation, the user should comply with the safety instructions and warnings
contained in these operating instructions
The structure complies with safety class II (double and strengthened insulating). Ensure
that the insulation of the housing or the main cable is neither damaged nor destroyed.
Chargers and accessories should be kept away from children! It is not a toy.
Keep batteries out of reach of children.
Make sure that the polarity is correct when inserting the accumulators.
Do not allow rechargeable batteries to lie around openly. There is the risk of batteries being
swallowed by children or pets. If swallowed, consult a doctor immediately.
Leaking or damaged batteries might cause acid burns when getting into contact with skin.
Therefore use suitable protective gloves.
Make sure that rechargeable batteries are not short-circuited or thrown into fire. There is a
risk of explosion!
Never dismantle accumulators!
On industrial sites the accident prevention regulations of the association of the industrial
workers' society for electrical equipment and utilities must be followed.
In schools, training facilities, hobby and self-help workshops operating this charger and the
accessories should be supervised by qualified trained staff.
Avoid use under unfavorable ambient conditions. This damages the sensitive electricity in
the inside of the charger and thereby possibly leads to danger to life of the user.
Unfavourable ambient conditions are:
- too high air humidity (> 75 % rel., condensing)
- wetness
- dust or combustible gases, vapours or solvents, benzines

- too high ambient temperatures (> approx. +40°C)
- strong vibrations

Pay attention to the charger instructions of the respective accumulator

manufacturer when charging.
Keep transmitters (cellular phones, transmitters for model building, etc.) away from the
charger because the resulting transmitter radiation can disturb the charging process or
damage the charger and therewith also the rechargeable battery.
Always grip the housing when pulling the plug-in charger from the socket. Make sure your
hands are dry.
Never connect the charger to the mains voltage immediately after taking it from a cold room into
a warm room. The condensation which forms can damamge the device. Allow the device to
reach room temperature while not connected.
If you have a reason to believe that the device can no longer be operated safely, discon-
nect it immediately and secure it against being operated unintentionally.
It can be assumed that safe operation is no longer possible if:
- the device exhibits visible damage,
- the device does not operate any longer and
- the device was stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time or
- the device was exposed to extraordinary stress in transit.
The triangle indicates important information in these operating instructions
which are to be followed strictly.
The"Arrow" symbol indicates special tips and information for the operation.

This product has been CE-tested and meets the necessary European guideli-
nes.
Connection and getting started
Connect the plug-in charger to a power socket to the 230 V AC mains supply.
Always pay attention to polarity when connecting 9V accumula-
tors.
Press the 9V clip onto the 9V accumulator.
The white battery pack plug is mechanically inverted and polarity protected. The plugs only
fit into each other polarised.
When the rechargeable battery pack is polarised, not defective (high-resistance/discon-
nected) and connected to the mains supply it starts to charge.
Charging time
The plug-in charger does not possess an automatic charging cut-off.
If the charging time is over, the charger has to be disconnected first of all from the mains
voltage and then from the accumulator.
The charging time is according to the environment temperature, the condition of the accu-
mulator, the state of charge etc. and is appraised roughly by the following formula:

A „slight" warming of the rechargeable battery/batteries while charging
is normal.
Never cover the charger to avoid possible damage (caused by heat accu-
mulation).
Improper use (too long charging or incorrect polarity) can supercharge or
damage the charger. In the worst case the charger can explode and the-
reby cause considerable damage.
It is essential to pay attention to the charging advices / instructions of the
accumulator manufacturer.
To make sure that a rechargeable battery still functions properly after a long
time (without memory effect), it is recommended for NiCd batteries only to
recharge an empty rechargeable battery pack. Apart from that rechargeable
batteries should be discharged / charged once a month (self-discharge,
capacity loss).
Disposal
Used electronic devices are raw materials and should not be disposed of in the
household waste. When the device has reached the end of its service life,
please dispose of it in accordance with the current statutory requirements at
your local collecting points. It is forbidden to dispose of it in the household
waste.
Disposal of used batteries/rechargeable batteries!
As a consumer you are required (Battery Ordinance)to responsibly dispose of all used
batteries and rechargeable batteries;it is forbidden to throw them away with the normal
household waste!
Batteries/rechargeable batteries containing harmful substances are marked
with the following symbols, they indicate that it is not allowed to dispose of
them in the domestic refuse. The description of dangerous heavy metal
constituents are: Cd = Cadmium, Hg = Mercury, Pb = Lead. You can take your
used batteries free of charge to your community's collection point or any
place where batteries are sold!
You thereby meet the legal obligations and contribute to the protection of the
environment!
