Appendix - Global Positioning System (GPS)
The GPS system consists of a series of satellites that allow a receiver
anywhere on Earth to determine its position with great accuracy.
EN
The network uses 24 satellites (plus spare satellites) orbiting the Earth on
six orbital planes, four satellites per plane, as shown below. These are
arranged so that at least five satellites are always within the reach of any
receiver (which can be anywhere).
Each satellite transmits information containing the calculated position and
the distance of the receiver. By combining this data from multiple
satellites, you can calculate the position of the receiver.
