LiPo Checker
Item No. 2182254
Intended Use
The LiPo checker is used to control the states of charge for model construction drive/flight re-
chargeable batteries (lithium rechargeable batteries with 2 - 7 cells or NiCd/NiMH rechargeable
batteries with 4 - 7 cells). The device has an automatic balancer function for lithium recharge-
able batteries that brings all the rechargeable battery's cells to the voltage level of the cell with
the lowest open-circuit voltage.
Usage other than that described above can lead to damaging the product and may involve
additional risks such as short circuits, fire, electrical shocks etc. Always observe the safety
instructions and all other information included in these operating instructions.
This product complies with the legal national and European requirements. All names of compa-
nies and products are the trademarks of the respective owners. All rights reserved.

Safety Instructions

The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by non-compliance
with these safety instructions. We do not assume any liability for any resulting
damage!
We do not assume any liability for material and personal damage caused by
improper use or non-compliance with the safety instructions. In such cases,
the warranty will be null and void!
• Unauthorised conversion and/or modification of the product is not allowed for
safety and approval reasons.
• The product is not a toy and should be kept out of the reach of children. Children
could change the settings or short-circuit the rechargeable battery/rechargeable
battery pack, which can lead to an explosion. Life-threatening and fire danger!
• The product must not become damp or wet.
• Avoid direct sunlight, strong heat or cold. Keep the product away from dust and
dirt.
• Do not operate the appliance when it is unattended. Although there is a wide range
of comprehensive safety mechanisms on the device, it is impossible to exclude the
possibility of malfunctions or problems occurring while in operation.
• Place the LiPo checker and the connected rechargeable battery on a flame-
resistant or non-combustible surface. Protect valuable furniture surfaces by using
a suitable mat.
• Never use the product immediately after it has been brought from a cold room
into a warm one. The resulting condensation may lead to malfunctions or damage
under certain circumstances! Leave the product switched off and wait until it has
reached room temperature before you use it. This may take several hours!
• Handle the product with care; it can be damaged by impact, blows, or accidental
dropping, even from a low height.
• Do not use in the immediate vicinity of strong magnetic or electromagnetic fields,
transmitter aerials or HF generators. This can impact the electric control system.
• If a safe operation can no longer be assumed, the device must be put out of
operation and secured against unintended operation. It can be assumed that safe
operation is no longer possible if the device is visibly damaged, the device does
not work at all, if it was stored long-term in unfavourable conditions, or if it was
exposed to heavy loads during the transport.
• Please observe the correct polarity of the LiPo checker (plus/+ and minus/-)
when connecting the rechargeable battery. In case of incorrect polarity, the LiPo-
Checker will be damaged under certain circumstances. There is a risk of fire and
explosion!
• Also observe the safety indications and information of the rechargeable batteries
that are connected to the LiPo checker.
• Do not leave the packaging material carelessly lying around, since it could become
a dangerous plaything for children.
• If you have any questions that are not answered in this manual, please contact our
technical service or another specialist.

Control Elements

1 Connection for the lithium rechargeable batteries
2 "TYPE" key
3 "MODE" key
4 "CELL" key
5 Connection for the NiCd/NiMH rechargeable batteries
Attention!
The LiPo checker has an input for NiCd/NiMH rechargeable batteries (5) and an
input for lithium rechargeable batteries (1).
Never use both input types simultaneously! This will destroy the LiPo checker. The
warranty/guarantee will be void!
Connecting a Lithium Rechargeable Battery
• Connect a lithium rechargeable battery (2 - 7 cells) with the LiPo checker via its balancer
cable; plug it into the appropriate connector (1). Ensure you insert them in the correct polar-
ity. The top pin in the figure is the negative pole (see also the marking on the LiPo checker).
Attention!
The incorrect polarity will destroy the LiPo checker. The warranty/guarantee will be
void! As a general rule, the negative pole is marked in colour on the rechargeable
battery's balancer connector.
• Use the "TYPE" key (2) to select the correct type of rechargeable battery (e.g. LiPo). You will
see on the display the total voltage of the rechargeable battery ("V Total"), the charge level
in % (e.g. 75%) and a correspondingly displayed bar graph.
In addition, on to the voltage indicator flashes a symbol (1S, 2S....7S) indicating the cell hav-
ing the lowest voltage (e.g. 2S = the 2nd cell).
• Now press the "MODE" key (3) several times in sequence; the following values are displayed:
"V MAX-MIN": The voltage difference between the highest and the lowest open-circuit voltage
of the cells
"V MAX": Indication of the cell having the highest voltage
"V MIN": Indication of the cell having the lowest voltage
• Press again the "MODE" key (3), then the LiPo checker is again in the "V Total" display mode
(total voltage).
• If a rechargeable battery is connected to the balancer connector (1), by pressing the "CELL"
key (4) you can interrogate the cell voltages of the individual cells (1S, 2S...7S) and their
state of charge in % (0 - 99%). The charging status is shown additionally by a bar graph.
The displayed values for the voltage and remaining capacity are good indications
for a rechargeable battery to be tested with respect to the assessment of the state
of charge and/or a cell drift.
Since these values are calculated without load, the values in the model in use (load
with high currents) can dramatically differ, depending on the status of the recharge-
able battery (old or new; few or many cycles; the rechargeable battery has a dam-
aged cell). A verification during operation – if possible without risk – is to be recom-
mended.
• After connecting the rechargeable battery to the LiPo checker (or after you have checked the
voltages of the rechargeable battery), after about 5 seconds, independently of the selected
display mode, the device will start to balance the cells.
After you have reviewed the charge condition of the rechargeable battery and found a larger
cell drift (> 10 mV), push the button "CELL" for about two seconds to start the automatic
balancer mode. The device will emit a double signal sound after two seconds. Discharging
has now started. The selected symbol of the rechargeable battery type (LiXX) flashes. The
device now automatically (endless loop) also selects every individual cell and displays the
current voltage and percentage with a bar chart.
