Introduction
Our Stabil-Plant Vacuum press (front page) enables the podiatrist to adapt a thermo-
plastic plantar to a customized cast in a vacuum, in a practical and safe way (fig. 1).
Installation
The press must be installed in compliance with CEI 62-5/2 ° 1991 regulation for electro-
medical appliances (the Stabil-Plant press has been designed accordingly). Prior to
plugging in the press, check the specifications on the label and make sure that the
mains are compatible with the appliance and protected against overcurrent according
to CEI 64-8 regulations.
The press must be protected against direct and indirect contacts for class I appliances
according to CEI 64-8 and 64-4 reg. The plug is equipped with earthing protective
cable: do not remove the cable in any case and make sure that the socket is compat-
ible.
Functioning
(illus. 2)
Once you have plugged the press into a compatible socket, the appliance is ready to
start operating. Open lid C and place the customized cast in the centre of the upper
level of the press; make sure you fill all the gaps around the cast with plasticine, so
that the cast can be pulled out once the plantar has been adapted.
Soften the thermoplastic sheet by using and electrical resistance or a suitable flame;
place the softened sheet over the cast, close the lid and lock fastener B; press switch
A to create a vacuum (in a few seconds manometer D will indicate - 8 bar); keep the
press in a vacuum for a few seconds or until the thermoplastic sheet has hardened.
Turn on tap E and re-establish atmospheric pressure inside the press, pull out the
cast, cut out and finish the plantar.
Maintenance
Keep the press clean, with special care for the rims of the lid; when the rubber is worn
out replace rubber seals, as dry rubber crumbles and allows air penetration, slowing
down the creation of a vacuum. In case of failure address to an authorised technician
who can supply original spare parts.
