- Page 2 Grid Drain Installation Instructions ASSEMBLY Clean and dry the fixture outlet. Apply plumbers putty or other sealant around underside of grid drain flange according to the putty manufacturer’s directions. When using plumbers putty, do not install lip seal washer. Assemble mack washer (tapered side up), friction washer and nut (flat side up) to the grid drain body. Tighten nut. Wipe off excess putty from around strainer flange.
