Operation
In order to turn the measurement device on, press the on/off button „3" on the transmitter for at least 2
seconds. The POWER LED lights up.
The receiver is equipped with an LED light to illuminate the work area. To enable this, slide the switch „4" on
the receiver to the front. To save power, switch the LED light off as soon as it is no longer needed.
The volume of the audio signal can be individually set using the adjusting wheel „8" on the receiver. The
audio signal can be output either via the built-in speaker or a headset. Connect the supplied headset to the
port „7" of the receiver, if required.
Using the transmitter, the frequency of the audio signal can be changed. For this purpose, briefly press the
Hz „9" button once. This setting will remain during the entire measurement process.
To switch off, press the on/off button „3" on the transmitter briefly once again.
To save power, the measurement device automatically switches off after 30 minutes of inactivity.
Finding pairs of wires
• Connect the power cable to the port "2" on the transmitter using the alligator clips.
• Connect the red and the black clips with a line to be measured respectively.
• Switch the transmitter on by pressing the on/off switch button "3".
• Press the SCAN button "7" on the transmitter briefly. The Status LED SCAN is lit up.
• Now press the SCAN button "3" on the receiver and hold it down during the entire measurement process.
The status LED "5" is lit up. Keep the measuring probe "9" at the other end of the line close to the pair of
wires. The receiver signals the correct pairs by a loud beep.
Make sure that you do not short the line. Otherwise, no measurement is possible here. You may
have to perform a continuity check beforehand.
Finding cables
• Connect the power cable to the port "2" on the transmitter using the alligator clips.
• Connect the red clip to a wire or the outer shield of the line to be measured.
• Now connect the black clip with another wire, but not with one of the same pairs of wire or with the central
terminal or the earthing for jacketed coaxial cable.
• Switch the transmitter on by pressing the on/off switch button "3".
• Press the SCAN button "7" on the transmitter.
Finding the phone cable
• Connect the phone cable to the port "2" on the transmitter and to the telephone jack using the modular
connector RJ11.
• Switch the transmitter on by pressing the on/off switch button "3".
• Press the SCAN button "7" on the transmitter. The Status LED SCAN is lit up.
• Now press the SCAN button "3" on the receiver and hold it down during the entire measurement process.
The status LED "5" is lit up. Keep the measuring probe "9" at all kinds of possible wires. The receiver
signals the correct line by a loud beep.
Finding data and LAN cables
• Connect a data cable RJ11 or a LAN cable RJ45 to the transmitter and the telephone or network jack.
• Switch the transmitter on by pressing the on/off switch button "3".
• Press the SCAN button "7" on the transmitter. The Status LED SCAN is lit up.
• Now press the SCAN button "3" on the receiver and hold it down during the entire measurement process.
The Status LED SCAN is lit up. Keep the measuring probe "9" at all kinds of data/ LAN cables. The receiver
signals the correct line by a loud beep.
Cable test
Never run a cable test on an active circuit. Make sure that the circuit is free of voltage before
each measurement.
Possible network cables: IEEE 10Base-T, EIA/TIA 568A, EIA/EIA568B, AT&T258A, Token Ring.
Possible phone cables: 2 and 4-wire
• Connect the cable to be tested with the transmitter and the receiver.
• Switch the transmitter on by pressing the on/off switch button "3".
• Press the TEST button "5" on the transmitter. The status LED OHM is lit up and the status LED SCAN
flashes.
• The measurement result is displayed on the LED display "6" of the transmitter and the LED display "2" of
the receiver.
Press the buttons SLOW or FAST "10" to change the scanning speed.
Phone cable voltage test
• Connect the phone cable to the RJ11 port "2" of the transmitter, or the red alligator clip to the phone line
wire "Lb" and the black alligator clip to the phone line wire "La".
• Switch the transmitter on by pressing the on/off switch button "3".
• Press the voltage button "4" on the transmitter. The Status LED VOLT is lit up.
• Locate the measured line voltage at which the status LED "SCAN" with correct polarity. Otherwise, the
status LED "OHM" lights.
Polarity test
• Connect the power cable to the port "2" on the transmitter using the alligator clips.
• Switch the transmitter on by pressing the on/off switch button "3".
• Press the voltage button V "4" on the transmitter. The Status LED VOLT is lit up.
• Connect each of the two alligator clips with a pole. If the red alligator clip is at the positive terminal, the
status LED SCAN is lit up. If the polarity of the terminals is not correct, the Status LED OHM is lit up. If
necessary, replace the two terminals for an exact verification of the polarity.
Continuity check
• Connect the power cable to the port "2" on the transmitter using the alligator clips.
• Connect each of the two alligator clips to a line to be measured.
• Switch the transmitter on by pressing the on/off button "3".
• Press the OHM button "8" on the transmitter. The status LED for OHM lights up.
• In the case of continuity in the line, the status LED SCAN lights up on the transmitter.
Disposal
a) General
Dispose of an unserviceable product in accordance with the relevant statutory regulations.
Remove the non-rechargeable/ rechargeable battery inserted in the measurement device and
dispose of it separately from the product.
b) Batteries and rechargeable batteries
As the end user, you are required by law (Battery Ordinance) to return all spent batteries/rechargeable bat-
teries; disposal of them in the household waste is prohibited.
Batteries/rechargeable batteries that contain hazardous materials are labelled with the follow-
ing symbols to indicate that disposal in the household waste is forbidden. The symbols of the
relevant heavy metals are: Cd = Cadmium, Hg = Mercury, Pb = Lead. You can return your used
batteries/rechargeable batteries free of charge to the official collection points in your municipal-
ity, in our stores, or anywhere where batteries or rechargeable batteries are sold.
