Attach the assist handle to the foot plate
bracket as shown in figure (Fig. 2).
CHECK/ADJUST CHAIN TENSION (FIG. 3)
1. Disconnect the power cord from the power
source before adjusting the saw chain
tension. Wear gloves.
2. The saw chain is correctly tensioned when
the drive links are just able to be pulled
from the guide-bar groove when pulled
from the center of the guide bar.
3. If adjustment is necessary, loosen the bar-
clamping knob
4. Loosen the bar-tip-guard screw.
5. Turn the chain-tensioning knob clockwise
until all slack from the chain is removed
and the chain seats snugly against the
guide bar with the drive links in the guide-
bar groove.
6. Retighten the bar-clamping knob and the
nose-cap screw.
7. The saw chain is correctly tensioned when
the drive links are just able to be pulled
from the guide-bar groove when pulled
from the center of the guide bar.
8. See the section: "REPLACING THE
GUIDE BAR AND SAW CHAIN" in this
manual for additional information.
NOTICE: New chains tend to stretch; check
the chain tension frequently and adjust the
tension as require.
NOTICE: A chain tensioned while it is warm
may be too tight upon cooling. Check the cold
tension before the next use.
NOTICE: If the chain is too tight, the drive
links cannot be pulled away from the guide-
bar groove. Slightly loosen the bar-clamping
knob and the bar-tip guard screw and then
adjust the tension with the chain-tensioning
knob. Retighten the bar-clamping knob and
the nose-cap screw.
