OPERATION
Letter references in parenthesis (A) refer to the included Identification Key.
MEASUREMENT PREPARATION
Cut reflective tape into approx. 1/2 in. (12 mm) lengths, peel the backing off and
apply one length to the shaft. Multiple markers may be required for Low RPM
measurement.
1. The amount of non-reflective area must always be greater than the amount
of reflective area for an accurate reading.
2. If the shaft is normally reflective, it must be covered with black tape or
black paint before attaching reflective tape.
3. The shaft surface must be clean and smooth before applying reflective tape.
RPM TOT BUTTON
Set the unit to RPM (all capitalized) for non-contact measurement.
The RPM TOT button has a number of selectable functions. The RPM function is
the only one that will work with this unit. The other functions require a contact
wheel set that is not included with this unit.
Consider purchasing the Digital Laser and Contact Tachometer (SKU 8714941),
if you wish to use the contact wheel functions.
The RPM TOT button (B) allows you to choose between two groups of UNIT
functions: RPM and REV. Press and hold the RPM TOT button for approximately
3 seconds to switch between the two functions.
There are several sub-selections within each group. Press the RPM TOT button
to switch to the next function within the group.

TAKING A MEASUREMENT

IMPORTANT! Bright reflections may interfere with the measurement. Reposition
lights or block/cover the reflections before measuring with the tachometer.
1. Start the engine, motor or device. Wait until it achieves full speed
before measuring.
2. Press the RPM TOT button (B) until the word RPM is displayed on the LCD (J).
3. Point the tachometer at the lengths of reflective tape. Press the measure
button (C) on the side. Align the laser pointer with the tape and continue to
hold the button.
