Assembly instruction
a) General installation advice
It is for all installation types advisable to screw the
UV-C system horizontally to a supporting board (e.g.
plank) using the 4 eyes (5.2), with the hose connec-
tors directed upwards. The unit cannot fall over this
way, and it avoids that the system runs empty and
overheats in case of pump failure. The system should
not be operated without water flowing through. In
case of pump failure, the system must be discon-
nected from power supply.
When being operated with a filter, the UV-C system is
installed upstream of the filter (1a / 3a). The algae and
bacteria inactivated by the UV-C light can then filtered
off more easily as they form larger agglomerates.
Various hose diameters can be connected to the sera
UV-C System 24 W via the variable hose connectors
(6.4 / 6.8) and 90° hose connector (6.15). Saw off the
smaller diameters with an (iron) saw if a hose fits on
one of the larger diameters. Secure the connection
with a hose clamp. You should use the same diame-
ters for the intake and the outlet.
b) Operation with an external aquarium filter for
freshwater aquariums, e.g. sera fil bioactive 250
(fig. 1a)
Position the UV-C system underneath the aquarium
(1a) as described under a). The connecting hose to
the external filter is cut, and the UV-C system is
inserted between the ends. When doing so, the out-
let of the UV-C system (6.4) is connected to the exter-
nal filter by the hose [20 – 25 cm (8 – 10 in.)] via the
variable hose connector.
The purified water is directed back into the aquarium
from the external filter. Please use the hoses supplied
with the filter when using the sera fil bioactive 250
external filter.
c) Operation with an aquarium pump for freshwater
and marine aquariums (fig. 1b / 2)
Install the UV-C system as described under a). The
aquarium pump used should preferably be adjustable,
as to effectively increase the contact time between
the water and the UV-C light in case of strong
pathogen or parasite occurrence. The water flow rate
through the UV-C system is considerably lower when
being operated at an aquarium than in case of a pond.
A flow rate of approx. once the tank contents per hour
in normal operation is applicable also in this case.
d) Operation with a pond filter with pump, e.g. sera
pond fil bioactive kit 6000 (pump including pres-
sure filter) (fig. 3a)
The UV-C system is installed as described under a),
downstream of the pump and upstream of the pond
filter. The 90° hose connector at the water intake of
the pond filter is connected to the variable hose con-
nector at the water outlet of the UV-C system by
means of a short piece of hose. Direct the purified
water from the pond filter, e.g. the sera pond fil
bioactive pressure filter back into the pond through
a hose of the same diameter.
e) Operation with a pond pump, e.g. sera pond PP
6000 or 9000 (fig. 3b)
The UV-C system is installed as described under a)
and directly connected to a pond pump. Make sure
the water intake (6.8) and the water outlet (6.4) are
connected to the correct variable hose connector. Be
sure to secure the UV-C system well with this kind of
installation, preventing it from sliding into the pond.
Operation
Make sure the lamp is completely immersed, that water
circulates around it and that the system is free from air
bubbles before switching on the UV-C lamp. The lamp
should not be operated dry, as to prevent overheating.
When following the instructions, the UV-C system (see
"General installation advice") is connected in a way that
water remains inside the unit even in case of pump fail-
ure.
