Digital Table Multimeter
Item no. 51 31 08
GDM-8261A

Intended use

Depending on the model, he table multimeter allows the measuring of different electric values
such as e.g. DC and AC voltage, DC and AC current, resistance, frequency as well as capacity
and temperature. Furthermore, diode and continuity tests can be conducted.
The table multimeter shows all measuring values in the double display. Measuring value and
device memory facilitate working with the table multimeter. The measuring connection is estab-
lished via BNC measuring sockets.
Measurements may be made only up to max. 1000 V/DC or 750 V/AC in the CAT I measuring
range and up to max. 500 V in the CAT II range respectively. The max. voltage in the current
measuring range "1.2 A" must not exceed 250 V.
For automated control and for recording measurement values, an RS232 and USB interface
is included.
The device should be connected to and operated with an earthed socket of the public mains
supply only.
Any use other than that described above could lead to damage to this product and involves the
risk of short circuits, fi re, electric shock, etc.
No part of the product may be modifi ed or rebuilt, and the housing must not be opened.
Measurements are not permitted in damp rooms or outdoors, nor under adverse environmental
conditions.
Unfavourable ambient conditions are:
- Wetness or high air humidity,
- Dust and combustible gases, vapours or solvents,
- Thunderstorms or similar conditions such as strong electrostatic fi elds, etc.
Always observe the safety notes included in these operating instructions.
This quick guide explains the safety measures that should be taken to make working with the
device as safe as possible. The individual functions of the device are described in more detail in
the English operating instructions. These are located in the main directory on the CD provided.

Explanation of the Symbols

This device left the manufacturer's factory in a safe and perfect condition.
We kindly request that the user observes the safety instructions and warnings contained in the
enclosed operating instructions so this condition is maintained and to ensure safe operation.
Please pay attention to the following symbols:
A triangle containing an exclamation mark indicates important information in these
operating instructions that is to be observed without fail.
A lightning symbol in a triangle warns against an electric shock or impairment of the
electrical safety of the device.
The "hand" symbol can be found wherever you are given tips and information on
operation.
This product has been CE-tested and therefore meets the required European guide-
lines. Warning! This is a class A device. It can cause radio interferences in residen-
tial areas; in this case, it can be demanded that the operator carries out appropriate
measures.
CAT I
Measurement Category I, for measurements on signal and control voltages without
powerful discharges.
CAT II
Measurement Category II, for measurements on electric devices connected to the
mains supply by a power plug. This category also covers all smaller categories (e.g.
CAT I for measuring signal and control voltages).
Protective conductor connection, safety class 1. This screw/this connection must not
be detached.
Earth potential
Operating switch: Pressed = I = ON; not pressed = 0 = OFF
INPUT
Measurement input (for equal magnitudes +)
COM
Common reference potential (for equal magnitudes -)
SENSE
Reference input for 4-wire measurement
FUSE
Current measurement safety device

Safety Instructions and Hazard Warnings

www.conrad.com
Version 01/13
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe these safety
instructions! We do not assume any liability for any resulting damage!
We shall not accept liability for damage to property or personal injury caused by incorrect han-
dling or non-compliance with the safety instructions! Any warranty will be void in such cases.
The unauthorised conversion and/or modifi cation of the product is not allowed for safety and
approval reasons (CE).
The design of the product complies with the safety class 1. Use only a domestic mains socket
(100 - 240 V~) of the public power supply network to power the unit.
The power socket must be near the equipment and easily accessible, or an emergency stop
device must be provided.
Measuring devices and devices connected to the power supply should be kept out of the reach
of children. Therefore, be especially careful when children are around.
Connect the measuring lines to the multimeter before connecting them to the measuring circuit
to be tested. After fi nishing the measurements, fi rst of all disconnect the measurement contacts
from the circuit before you disconnect the measuring lines from the multimeter.
Be especially careful when dealing with voltages higher than > 50 V alternating current (AC) or >
75 V direct current (DC)! Even at such voltages you can get a life-threatening electric shock if
you come into contact with live electric wires.
Check the measuring device and its measuring leads for any damage before each measure-
ment. Never take any measurements if the protecting insulation is defective (torn, missing etc.).
To avoid electric shock, do not touch the connections/measuring points directly or indirectly
during measurements.
Never touch the probes outside of the marked handling area during a measurement. There is
danger of a life-threatening electric shock.
Do not use the device shortly before or after a thunderstorm (lightning! / high-power surges!).
Make sure that your hands, shoes, clothing, the fl oor, the measuring device and/or measuring
lines, the circuits and its parts are always dry.
Do not use the device in rooms or under unfavourable ambient conditions in which there are or
could be combustible gases, vapours or dust.
Do not use in the immediate vicinity of:
- strong magnetic or electromagnetic fi elds
- transmitting aerials or HF generators.
- These can affect the measurement.
Use only measuring cables or measuring accessories that are suitable for the table multim-
eter's specifi cations.
If a safe operation can no longer be assumed, the device must be put out of operation and
secured against unintended operation. Safe operation can no longer be assumed if:
- the device is visibly damaged,
- the device does not function any more and
- the device was stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time or
- it has been subjected to considerable stress during transportation.
Never switch the device on immediately after having taken it from a cold to a warm environ-
ment. The condensation that forms might destroy your device. Allow the device to reach room
temperature before switching it on.
Never disassemble the product! There is danger of a life-threatening electric shock!
Do not carelessly leave the packaging material lying around, since it could become a danger-
ous plaything for children.
The device is intended only for dry interior rooms (not bathrooms or similar damp rooms). The
device must not get wet or damp. There is danger of a life-threatening electric shock!
On industrial sites, the accident prevention regulations of the association of the industrial work-
ers' society for electrical equipment and utilities must be followed.
Measurement instruments used at schools, training facilities, do-it-yourself and hobby work-
shops should not be handled unless supervised by trained, responsible personnel.
If you have doubts about how the equipment should be operated or how to connect it safely,
consult a trained technician.
Handle the product with care. It can be damaged through impact, blows, or accidental drops,
even from a low height.
Please also note the enclosed detailed operating instructions.
Please read all the instructions before using this device; they contain impor-
tant information on its correct operation.
