RADIO-CONTROLLED ALARM CLOCK EFW 341
INTENDED USE
The product is intended for displaying the time of day; in addition, there is an inte-
grated alarm function.
The time is set automatically using an integrated DCF receiver.
Always observe the safety instructions and all other information included in these
operating instructions.
This product complies with the applicable National and European regulations. All

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
Please read all of the operating instructions before using the product
for the fi rst time; they contain important information about the correct
operation. The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by
failure to observe these safety instructions! We do not assume any li-
ability for any consequential damage!
Nor do we assume any liability for material and personal damage caused
by improper use or non-compliance with the safety instructions! In such
cases, the warranty will be null and void.
- For safety reasons, any unauthorised conversion and/or modifi cation of the
product is not permitted. Never dismantle the product.
- The product is intended exclusively for use in dry interiors; it must not get damp
or wet.
- This product is not a toy and does not belong in the hands of children. Only use
the product out of the reach of children; the product contains parts that could
be swallowed as well as batteries.
- Condensation may form when the product is brought from a cold room into a
warm one. Wait until it has reached room temperature before using it.
- Do not leave the packaging materials unattended. They may become
dangerous playthings for children.
- Handle the product with care; it can be damaged by impacts, blows, or accidental
drops, even from a low height.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR BATTERIES AND RECHARGE-
ABLE BATTERIES
- Batteries/rechargeable batteries do not belong in the hands of children.
- Do not leave batteries/rechargeable batteries lying around; there is a risk that
they could be swallowed by children or pets. If swallowed, consult a doctor im-
mediately.
- Leaking or damaged batteries/rechargeable batteries in contact with the skin
can cause acid burns, therefore, use suitable protective gloves.
- Batteries/rechargeable batteries must not be short-circuited, opened or thrown
into a fi re. There is a risk of explosion!
- Do not recharge normal, non-rechargeable batteries, risk of explosion! Only
charge rechargeable batteries that are intended for this purpose; use suitable
rechargeable battery chargers.
- Make sure that the polarity is correct when inserting the battery/rechargeable
battery (pay attention to plus/+ and minus/-).

INSERTING/REPLACING THE BATTERY/RECHARGE-
ABLE BATTERY
Open the battery compartment on the back of the case and insert a battery of the
type AA/Mignon, paying attention to the correct polarity. The correct polarity is
indicated in the battery compartment.
After inserting the battery, the clock hands move to the reception position (12.00
noon), and the radio-controlled alarm clock starts to search for the DCF signal (see
chapter "DCF reception").
Close the battery compartment again.
The battery needs changing when the clock stops.
 
A rechargeable battery may be used, but due to the lower voltage output
(rechargeable battery = 1.2V, standard battery = 1.5V) and the lower capac-
ity, the service life is shorter.
DCF RECEPTION
Immediately after the battery is inserted, the device makes the fi rst attempt to receive
the DCF signal. The hands of the clock run to the receiver position and automatically
set themselves to the current time after successfully receiving the DCF signal.
 
The recognition and interpretation of the DCF signal can take 2-5 minutes.
Do not move the radio-controlled alarm clock during this time. Do not press
any buttons or switches!
Bad reception can be caused, for example, by metalized insulated glass, rein-
forced concrete buildings, coated special wallpapers, proximity to electronic
devices, or installation in cellars.
If the clock hands do not move to the current time after 10 minutes, change
the position of the radio-controlled alarm clock and press the RESET button
on the rear of the case using a sharp object.
This will start a new reception attempt.
The reception attempt for the daily automatic synchronisation with the DCF time is
done several times a day. One successful reception per day is suffi cient to keep the
deviation to less than 1 second.
The DCF signal is encoded and transmitted via a
DCF transmitter in Mainfl ingen (near Frankfurt). Its
range is up to 1,500 km and, under ideal reception
conditions, even up to 2,000 km.
Among other things, the DCF signal includes the
precise time (theoretical deviation of 1 second in a
million years!) and the date.
Naturally, this also eliminates the hassle of manu-
ally setting summer and winter time.
TO MAKE A DCF RECEPTION ATTEMPT
To perform a manual search for the DCF-signal (e.g. if you have placed the radio-control-
led alarm clock in a different location), press the RESET key on the rear of the case using a
sharp object.
This will start a new reception attempt. Then, as described above, wait about 2-5
minutes until the correct time is displayed.
SETTING THE TIME MANUALLY
 
It is necessary to set the time manually if the radio-controlled alarm clock is
to be used beyond the range of the DCF signal.
To set the time manually, press the M.SET button for 3 seconds.
As soon as the minute hand starts to run, you can set the time manually:
Press the M.SET button briefl y, to adjust the time in minute steps, or keep the M.SET
button pressed, to adjust the time continuously.
When the M.SET button is not pressed, the set time is automatically accepted and
the manual time setting mode is exited.
