Installation

1. Construct a basin from concrete, steel, or plastic
that is 24" deep and at least 18" in diameter
(Figure 3). If the basin already exists, make sure it
is the proper size.
2. Make sure the electrical outlet is grounded and is
rated for 115 volts and at least 15 amps. The out-
let must be protected by a Ground Fault Circuit
Interrupter (GFCI) (Figure 1).
WARNING
!
Use of a grounded receptacle that is
protected by a GFCI reduces risk of a fatal electrical
shock.
3. Inspect the power cord and plug for damage. If the
plug is missing the grounding prong or the cord is
damaged, do not install the pump.

assembling and after installation. Failure to do so
could cause piping to break or pump to fail, which
could result in property damage and/or personal injury.
4. Set pump into basin. Locate the pump on a solid
level surface.
NOTICE
!
gravel, or any loose or sandy surfaces. These sur-
faces contain small stones or sand that may clog or
damage the pump. This could result in pump failure
causing flooding and property damage.
5. Thread discharge pipe or pipe nipple into the dis-
charge connection.
6. A check valve (not included) is required in the dis-
charge line to prevent backflow when the pump
shuts off. It is best to install the check-valve in a
horizontal position or up to a 45˚ degree angle with
the valve pivot on top. In a vertical position, solids
will tend to lodge on the valve flapper and prevent
it from opening.
7. A union should be installed between the check
valve and the pump so the pump can be removed
with the least disturbance of the piping.
8. Drill a 1/16" hole in the discharge pipe approxi-
mately 1" to 2" above the pump discharge. This
hole prevents air locking of the pump at the initial
start-up or if it should lose prime.
9. A full port gate valve (not included) capable of
passing 2" solids should be installed in the system
after the check valve. This valve permits removal
of the pump and/or check valve for servicing.

thread. Do not use pipe joint sealant.
10. Install float switch (SEC-400/SEC-600) per instruc-
tions included with the switch.
IMPORTANT! Make sure there is adequate room
for float switch to move freely during operation. 1"
minimum clearance is required.
