Safety instructions
Read the operating instructions carefully and especially observe the safety information. If you do
not follow the safety instructions and information on proper handling in this manual, we assume
no liability for any resulting personal injury or damage to property. Such cases will invalidate the
warranty/guarantee.
Persons / Product
The product is only intended for use in dry, indoor locations. No part of the product should be allowed to become
moist or wet, never take hold of it if your hands are wet! Use of the power adapter involves a risk of an electric
shock!
Do not pull the power adapter from the mains socket by pulling the cable.
If the power adapter is damaged, do not touch it; there is danger to life from electric shock! Switch off the mains
voltage to the socket to which the power adapter is connected (switch off at the corresponding circuit breaker or
remove the safety fuse). You can then unplug the power adapter from the mains socket. Dispose of the damaged
power adapter in an environment-friendly way, do not use it any more. Replace it with a new power adapter with
the same specifications.
The design of the power adapter complies with protection class II. Only use a standard mains socket as the voltage
source (see section "Technical data").
Never use the product immediately after it has been taken from a cold room to a warm one. The condensation that
forms might destroy your unit. This might cause a lethal electric shock! Allow the product to reach room temperature,
before connecting it to the power supply and putting it in to use. This may take several hours.
When setting up the product, make sure that the cables are neither kinked nor pinched.
If the product is not to be used for a while (e.g. during storage), unplug the power adapter.
The device is not a toy. Keep it out of the reach of children and pets.
Do not leave packaging material lying around carelessly. These may become dangerous playing material for
children.
Protect the product from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, strong jolts, high humidity, moisture, flammable
gases, vapours and solvents.
Do not place the product under any mechanical stress.
If it is no longer possible to operate the product safely, take it out of operation and protect it from any accidental use.
Safe operation can no longer be guaranteed if the product:
-
is visibly damaged,
-
is no longer working properly,
-
has been stored for extended periods in poor ambient conditions or
-
has been subjected to any serious transport-related stresses.
Please handle the product carefully. Jolts, impacts or a fall even from a low height can damage the product.
Also observe the safety and operating instructions of any other devices which are connected to the product.
Miscellaneous
Consult an expert when in doubt about operation, safety or connection of the device.
Maintenance, modifications and repairs are to be performed exclusively by an expert or at a qualified shop.
If you have questions which remain unanswered by these operating instructions, contact our technical support
service or other technical personnel.

Operation
1.
Connect the low-voltage plug of the power adapter with the relevant jack on the USB hub.
2.
Connect the power adapter to a mains socket. The power LED on the USB hub lights up.
In which case, power the USB hub via the enclosed power adapter ("Self-Powered-Mode"), each
USB port on the hub will then provide a higher current.
The USB hub can also be operated without the enclosed power adapter. In which case, the hub
functions in the so-called "Bus-Powered-Mode". This means that the current (according to the
standard, up to 900 mA for USB 3.0 and up to 500 mA for USB 2.0), supplied by the computer via the
USB, is distributed to the 4 ports.
This is sufficient for e.g. most mice or keyboards, but many other devices may not work correctly (e.g.
external 6.35 cm/2.5" hard disks, card readers with CompactFlash hard disk, USB cameras etc.).
If you notice that a device which is connected to the USB hub does not work correctly, or is not
recognised, operate the USB hub via the power adapter.
3.
Connect the USB hub, via the provided USB cable, to a free USB3.0 port on your computer (the computer does not
need to be switched off).
If you do not have a USB 3.0 interface on your computer (e.g. on the motherboard or on a USB 3.0
expansion card), you can also connect the USB hub to a USB 2.0/1.1 port. However, the devices
connected to the USB 3.0 hub (whether USB 2.0 or USB 1.1) will normally only function at the
conventional USB 2.0/1.1 speed!
4.
Windows recognizes the new hardware and automatically installs the appropriate drivers (these exist in Windows;
therefore, no data carrier with drivers is enclosed in the delivery).
5.
Now connect your USB devices to the USB hub.

You can operate the hub without the screw-in foot. Remove the screw-in foot by holding the hub and
turning the screw-in foot clockwise.

Tips & Notes
The USB 3.0 hub is USB 2.0/1.1 compatible. This means that normal USB 2.0/1.1 devices can be used without any
problem on the USB 3.0 Hub. However, this will not speed up the USB 2.0/1.1 devices!
Of course, the USB 3.0 hub can also be used with a USB 2.0/1.1 port, e.g. if your computer does not have a USB 3.0
interface. Neither in this case is an increase in the data transmission speed possible.
In order to take advantage of the high speed provided by USB 3.0, all the devices must support USB 3.0: These
devices are the USB device itself (e.g. an external hard disk), the USB hub and the USB controller inside the PC.
However, the theoretical maximum speed for USB 3.0 (or also USB 2.0/1.1) is never achieved in practice. This is
due to protocol information, simultaneous operation of several USB devices or the speed limit of the connected
device or the USB controllers/motherboards.
Normally, USB operation is not possible in DOS or in the protected mode of Windows.
Nevertheless, depending on the computer or BIOS /Setup settings, it possible to use a USB keyboard and a USB
mouse. It is necessary, however, to connect them directly to the computer's USB interface, i.e. not to the USB
Hub.
USB devices can be plugged in and unplugged while the PC is in use. This means that you do not have to switch
off your computer, when you want to plug in or unplug devices (with other interfaces this can cause damage, e.g. if
you connect or disconnect a PS/2 mouse during operation).
If data transfers are in progress on the USB port, e.g. if an external disk is inputting data to the computer, and you
unplug the USB plug, Windows might crash or the data system on the external disk may be damaged!
For some USB devices (e.g. USB hard drives) Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 displays an icon with an
arrow in the menu bar. You can "separate" the USB device from the computer using this function, and thus instruct
the computer to close opened files. Afterwards, the USB device can be unplugged safely.
Only use suitable USB 3.0 cables for connecting USB 3.0 devices. Please note that the data transfer rate may
decrease if the USB 3.0 cables are very long.
6.
Maintenance & Cleaning
Do not use abrasive cleaning agents, cleaning alcohol or chemical solutions, since these could
damage the housing or even impair operation.
Maintenance or repairs must only be carried out by qualified personnel or a specialised repair shop. The product
contains no parts that require servicing. Therefore, do not open/dismantle it.
Use a clean, dry, soft cloth for cleaning. Do not apply too much pressure on the housing, this could result in scratch
marks.
Dust can easily be removed using a clean brush and a vacuum cleaner.
7.
Disposal
In order to preserve, protect and improve the quality of environment, protect human health and utilise
natural resources prudently and rationally, the user should return unserviceable product to relevant
facilities in accordance with statutory regulations.
The crossed-out wheeled bin indicates the product needs to be disposed separately and not as municipal
waste.
