5.4 Cleaning the permanent filter
ATTENTION:
The filter elements are washable, but may
not be cleaned in dishwashers or washing-
machines. Also, do not use detergents or
brushes with hard bristles to clean the fil-
ters. Let the filters dry for approx. 24 hours
at room temperature after cleaning. Only
put them back into the appliance when they
are completely dry.
ATTENTION:
Never operate the appliance without the
permanent filter fitted inside the dust con-
tainer. Otherwise, the motor might be dam-
aged.

The filter elements can get dirty after a
time. Therefore, it is important to check the fil-
ter elements regularly and clean them if nec-
essary.
If you see that one of the filter elements is
damaged, replace it immediately (ZChapter
7.1, "Ordering spare parts").
To clean the filter elements, proceed as
follows:
1. Switch the appliance off and pull the plug
out of the socket.
2. Empty the dust container, ZChapter 5.2,
"Emptying the dust container".
3. Press the release catch on the filter
screen.
4. Remove the filter screen with its perma-
nent filter (Fig. 18).
5. Hold the filter screen low over a dustbin
with the permanent filter inserted.
6. Pull the permanent filter out of the filter
screen (Fig. 19).
7. Tap the dust out of the filters and remove
coarse dirt by hand.
8. If this is insufficient, use a soft brush to re-
move residual dirt.
9. If this is still insufficient, thoroughly rinse
the two filters elements under cold or
hand-warm running water.
10. Let the filters dry for approx. 24 hours at
room temperature after wet cleaning. Only
put them back into the appliance when
they are completely dry.
11. Put the permanent filter back into the filter
screen (Fig. 19).
12. Put the filter screen back into the dust con-
tainer (Fig. 20).
13. Make sure that it clicks into place audibly.
If it does not, it is not yet in place. Put it on
again until you manage it.
14. Close the dust compartment base. It clicks
shut audibly.
