The timer starts the defrost cycle automatically at the predetermined times.

A setting of two to four defrost cycles per day is typical. For heavier frost loads, additional cycles may be required.
When the defrost cycle begins:

The compressor will stop but the evaporator fan(s) will continue to run.
•
Air is pulled across the evaporator coil without refrigerant running through the system. The coil temperature to
increases above 32°F/0°C melting the frost and ice.
•
The system remains in defrost through the duration programmed on the timer. Once the duration is complete,
the compressor activates and refrigerant starts cycling through the system.
•
The system operates in the refrigeration cycle until the next defrost cycle is initiated by the timer.
