4. CARTRIDGES

4.1. INSTRUCTIONS

The ALPRIDE cartridges have the lifejacket's standard. No maintenance is required and they are certified without leaks and
used for almost 50 years in the US navy.
Once the airbag has been inflated, the gas cartridges have to be exchanged with a new set of a full one. The ALPRIDE
cartridges are disposable  ; no refill is possible. Inappropriate handling can lead to system failure.
The ALPRIDE cartridges are the same for all the brands using the ALPRIDE AIRBAG SYSTEM. Flying with this type of
cartridges is approved by IATA (The International Air Transport Association is the trade association for the world's airlines).
The ALPRIDE cartridges must be kept safe from harm. Damaged cartridges must be replaced.
The ALPRIDE cartridges must be kept away from sources of heat (direct sunlight, hobs, stoves, etc.).
4.2. TYPE & INSPECTION
1- The working pressure of this cartridge is 17.5 mpa.
2- The cartridges are designed for a temperature range of -30 to +50  º C.
3- Use of the cartridge must be limited to this ambient temperature range.
4- One cartridge contains compressed argon and the other one liquefied CO
5- This gas cartridge must only be used with Alpride device. Do not refill disposable cartridges. Content is under pressure
of 17.5 mpa. If the weight of this gas cartridge is less than the minimum weight marked on the gas cartridge (min. gross
weight) it should be rejected.

5. OPERATION/GETTING READY

In the event of an avalanche, the user must tug on the trigger handle in order to release the compressed gas of the two
ALPRIDE cartridges  : this inflates the 150 litres avalanche airbag within 3 seconds.
The SCOTT ALPRIDE AIRBAG SYSTEM concept is based on the physical principle of inverse segregation. This is a phenom-
enon whereby, given a uniformly moving mass of particles, the smaller particles sink downwards and the larger ones float to
the surface. The inflated airbag increases the victim's volume and greatly amplifies this inverse segregation effect. The ava-
lanche backpack helps prevent total burial in the snow. The airbag's shape protects the back and the head of the user. More-
over, the rounded shape gives optimal float efficiency on the avalanche and the bright airbag color helps rapid localization.

5.1. INITIAL OPERATION

The uncompromising functioning and the personal handling by the user of the SCOTT ALPRIDE AIRBAG SYSTEM are criti-
cal. The handling is straightforward but must be done with care and according to the steps outlined below  :
