Install the shift cable casing guide over the shift
lever pin. Place washer over shift lever pin and
secure with clip.
For proper installation, review the following
steps:
• Place washer on shift lever pin.
• Position retainer clip with straight section on
the bottom and angled section on the top.
• Use long nose pliers to insert straight section
of clip into shift lever pin hole.
• Push the clip towards the hole while lifting on
the curved end with the pliers.
• Be sure retainer clip fully engages the shift
lever pin.
• Lock the retainer by moving the angled sec-
tion behind the straight section.
1. Angled section behind straight section
Make sure remote control is in NEUTRAL.
Turn the propeller and shift the remote control
into FORWARD gear. Confirm the shift lever and
gearcase are in FORWARD gear.
Turn the propeller and shift the remote control
into REVERSE gear. Confirm the shift lever and
gearcase are in REVERSE gear.
Return the remote control lever to NEUTRAL
and confirm the shift lever and gearcase are in
NEUTRAL.
Adjust the shift cable trunnion to align with the
center of the trunnion block. Tighten trunnion
retainer screw to a torque of 60 to 84 in. lbs. (7 to
9.5 N·m).

Connect CPS connector. Install starboard lower
motor cover. Connect battery cables at the
battery.
Use Evinrude Diagnostics software to reprogram
Engine Management Module (EMM) for remote
model start-in-gear protection.
