4 - Ground Preparation
4.1 - Choice of Ground
IMPORTANT: The ground must be strictly flat, hard and level. The difference in level from one end to the other of the swimming pool must
not be more than 2 cm.
■ Your swimming pool is exclusively intended for being placed on the ground.
■ Any earthworks must always be done in firm soil and not in fill.
■ If the ground is sloping, earth must always be removed from the uphill part and not used to build up the downhill part.
■ When the terrain is well levelled, it is essential to remove any stones, grass and roots and compact the earth well. If this operation is not properly
carried out, grass and weeds could regrow under the liner and damage it. A thin layer of very fine sifted sand (1 to 1.5cm thick) must be spread in order
to flatten the whole area.
■ If you are installing your swimming pool on a slab or cemented earth, make sure that the level is correct and the cement is not coarse. The
dimensions of the cement slab or floor should extend at least 30 cm beyond the entire periphery of the pool.
■ For oval pools, do not forget to provide the necessary trenches for embedding the horizontal support beams (see section 5, "Digging of
Trenches").
■ You should always position your pool on a rotproof felt groundsheet, so as to protect the liner.
■ The guarantee will only be valid if the liner has been properly protected.
■ Don't forget that a swimming pool filled with water is extremely heavy (for example, an oval pool 7.30m long weighs 29 tonnes (when filled with water).
■ Leave sufficient room around the pool for unrestricted play and movement.
■ Decide where to install the filter as a function of the possibilities of electrical power supply; by preference, install it on the opposite side from
dominant winds.

4.2 - Dimensions of oval pools
The dimensions shown are external dimensions necessary for tracing the surface required by the swimming pool on the ground.
(fig 1).
4.3 - Pool Layout
■ ROUND POOLS
Use two stakes joined by a cord of a length equal to the
radius of the pool. Plant one stake at the centre and,
using the other stake, trace the circle by spreading sand,
plaster or chalk on the ground.
■ OVAL POOLS
Equip yourself with:
■ stakes to mark out the edges of your pool;
■ one stake attached to a cord approximately 6 metres
long, for plotting the contours of your pool;
■ sand, plaster or chalk, for marking-out the contours of
your pool.
5 - Digging of Trenches (Oval pools only)
Depending on the dimensions of your pool, one, two or three trenches 15 cm high and 5 cm deep should be dug so that
you can position the horizontal rails in them. Also provide indentations for setting the end of the trenches and for the pressure
plates.The trenches should be exactly the stated dimensions. Check that the trenches are parallel with each other;
start by digging the central trench. In order to determine the position of the gullies:
■ Stand at the end of one of the reinforcing struts' position.
■ Measure the dimension Q.
■ Remove the dimension from 31cm.
In order to ensure the right position of your trench, assemble a complete set of ' knee braces – vertical poles- straps – press-plates'
