Safety instructions

This instrument is constructed and tested
according to the current EU directives and
packed in technically safe condition. In order to
maintain this condition and to ensure safe
operation, the user must follow the instructions
and warnings given in this instruction.
The operating manual must be read and
understood before installation. If you are
uncertain on any point, please contact Besta
AG.
The electrical connection may only be carried
out by qualified personnel who have been
authorised by the operator.
To obtain the specified protection degree, the
BLS Level Sensor must be mounted with a
compliant cable.
Before switching on the power supply take care
that other equipment is not affected. Ensure
that the supply voltage and the conditions in
the environment comply with the specification
of the device.
The BLS Level Sensor is designed to detect levels in tanks, media separation and provide empty-pipe
detection or dry-run protection for pumps.
A high frequency sweep signal is radiated from the sensor tip into the tank. The media will act as a
virtual capacitor, which together with a coil in the sensor head, will form a circuit creating the switch
point signal. This virtual capacitance will depend of the dielectric value of the media.
Two output signals are available, Normally Open (NO) and Normally Closed (NC).
The measurement is precise and unaffected by the mounting position in the tank.
The BLS Level Sensor measures liquids such as water and oil. Even dry media can be measured, e.g.
coal dust or plastic granulate.
The process connection can easily be sealed by use of Teflon
adapter for the hygienic edition.
This product contains no replaceable parts. In case of malfunction the product must be shipped to
Besta Ltd. for repair.

Before switching off the supply voltage check
the possible effects on other equipment and
the processing system.
The BLS Level Sensor must be selected by
qualified personnel in accordance with the
specifications stipulated by the customer.
These specifications must be kept by the
operator in a safe place, together with the
operating manual, the customer-specific
designation and the type number.
In the event of any deviation of the physical
quantities (pressure, temperature, density, etc.)
from the original specification, the suitability of
the level controller must be checked again by
qualified personnel or by the manufacturer with
regard to the new specifications.
Process vessels must be brought to
atmospheric pressure before work is carried
out and must be appropriately vented.
The BLS Level Sensor must be included in the
regular plant pressure tests.
