1. Safety instructions

For skilled electricians and
trained personnel in
accordance with national legislation,
including the relevant standards and,
where applicable, in acc. with
IEC 60079-17 on electrical apparatus
for explosive atmospheres.
The torch must not be used in zone 0
hazardous areas!
The temperature class marked on the
torch is to be observed!
The torch may only be opened or
charged outside of hazardous areas!
Modifications to the lamp or changes of
its design are not permitted!
The torch shall only be used for its
intended purpose and in perfect
condition!
For replacing components, only genuine
CEAG spare parts may be used!
Repairs that affect the explosion
protection (see ElexV), may only be
carried out by CEAG or a qualified
"electrician", and must afterwards be
checked by an "expert"!
Prior to initial operation, the torch must
be charged in accordance with the
instructions included in section 5 (only
Stabex HF-L rechargeable version)!
Torches fitted with NiCd accumulators
must not be stored for more than 6
months without a recharge!
Observe the national safety rules and
regulations for prevention of accidents
as well as the following safety
instructions which are marked with an
(
) in these operating instructions!
2. Conformity with standards
This explosion protected electric torch meets
the requirements of EN 50014, EN 50019,
EN 50020, EN 60598, EN 50281-1-1 and of
the EC directives "Apparatus and protective
systems for use according to the rules in hazard-
ous areas" (94/9/EC) and on "Electromagnetic
compatibility" (89/336/EEC).
It has been designed, manufactured and
tested according to the state of the art and to
EN 29001 (ISO 9001).
This torchlight is suitable for use in zone 1, 2.
21 and 22 hazardous areas acc. to IEC 79-10.

4. Description and application
The Stabex HF or Stabex HF-L torch is par-
ticularly suitable for inspection and mainte-
nance duties as well as for security patrols.
The torch is composed of three units:
1.
Housing with switch (ON-OFF),
2.
Bezel ring with protective glass and re-
flector
3.
Handle at option with
3.1 Battery case for dry batteries (Stabex HF)
3.2 Rechargeable battery insert (Stabex HF-L).
The handle is fitted with a belt loop.
By turning the bezel ring, the light cone can
be adjusted.
For charging the battery insert
No. 2 1359 200 000, the LG 493 charger order
No.: 1 1540 000 493 is available.
5. Taking into operation
Prior to taking the torch into operation,
check its correct functioning and perfect
condition in accordance with these oper-
ating instructions and other applicable
regulations!
The torch may be opened or charged
only outside of hazardous areas!
STABEX HF
Screw off handle and insert dry batteries
(acc. to section 6).
Mind: Do not use individual recharge-
able accumulators or accumulator
sets!
STABEX HF-L
The rechargeable battery insert is to be
charged.
Observe the operating instructions for the
CEAG LG 493 charger order ref. 1 1540
000 493!
The rechargeable torch model may only
be fitted with the rechargeable battery
insert order ref. 2 1359 200 000.
Mind: For safety reasons, the battery is
delivered uncharged!
The rechargeable battery insert may only be
charged with the aid of the charger order
ref. 1 1540 000 493.
Prior to initial use, the battery insert must be
charged for 14 h.
The whole useful battery capacity will only be
obtained after the battery has been submitted
to at least 3 charging/discharging cycles.
Note: For electrochemical reasons the
battery will absorb no charge at
temperatures below -5°C.
At temperatures >30°C, a full charge of the
battery will not be possible for electrochemical
reasons.
Recommendation: Prior to charging, the bat-
tery should be kept so as to adopt room tem-
perature (apx. 20°C).

6. Maintenance/Servicing

As far as the maintenance, servicing
and test of electrical apparatus for
explosive atmospheres are concerned,
the respective national regulations in
conjunction with the relevant stand-
ards will be applicable!
Opening the battery insert
No. 2 1359 200 000 is not permitted.
As to the Stabex HF-L rechargeable torch,
mind:
Because of the NiCd batteries' self-discharge,
these should be recharged every 4 to 6
months even if the lamp has not been used.
Lamp replacement
Lamp replacement may only be
performed in a non-hazardous area!
1.
Open the torch by turning the bezel ring
to the left.
2.
Replace the old lamp by a new one.
3.
Close the torch in inverse order.
Battery replacement (Stabex HF)
Battery replacement may only be per-
formed in a non-hazardous area!
1.
Keep switch button pressed down.
Open the torch by turning the handle to
the left.
2.
Replace the dry batteries.
3.
Close the torch in inverse order.
Recommendation: Always use batteries of
the same date of manufacture.
Mind: Observe the proper polarity when
inserting the dry batteries.
Replacement of the battery insert (Stabex
HF-L)
Battery replacement may only be per-
formed in a non-hazardous area!
1.
The battery insert is charged in acc. with
section 5.
2. Keep switch button pressed down.
Replace the complete handle (battery
insert).
Note: Observe the national regulations
on waste disposal when disposing of
the batteries.
Subject to alteration or supplement of the
product series.
