Continuity Tester Testboy 20
ENG
Thank you for purchasing the Testboy 20. The Testboy 20 is the result of continuous further development of
the million times over tried and trusted Testboy 2; in the meantime it boasts more than five professional
functions for working with electrical cables.
* Optical, low-resistance continuity tests
* Acoustic high-resistance continuity tests
* High-performance LED torch
* Non-contact voltage check
* Phase sequence indicator
1a.) Continuity test optical
Plug in the measuring leads as shown in figure 1a. The optical display (larger LED) lights up at 0 ~ 20 Ohms;
the light intensity decreases proportionally from 10 Ohms.
Warning!
The neon lamp glows if contrary to expectations the object to be measured is connected to the voltage
supply.
The red V ~ LED lights up if a measuring lead contacts a live circuit.
1b.) Continuity test acoustic
Plug in the measuring leads as shown in figure 1b. The acoustic signal sounds at 0 ~ 250 Ohms. The green
>o< LED lights up simultaneously.
Warning!
If contrary to expectations, the object to be measured is connected to the voltage supply
glows and the buzzer emits an audible warning signal! The red V ~ LED lights up if a measuring lead contacts
a live circuit. The Testboy 20 is voltage proof up to 300 V ~ (max. 30s)! It is possible to carry out continuity
tests with the torch turned on at the same time.
2.) Contact-free voltage tests
No measuring leads are connected (see figure 2)! Testboy 20 detects live wires by means of the integrated
circuit in the rear of the device. No current flow is required. The metal clip acts as an extended sensor.
Touching the metal clip is not a source of danger!
3.) Single-pole phase testing
Insert a measuring lead into the device, preferably in the COM jack (figure 3)! Now touch the wire with the tip
of the test probe. Ensure that you do not touch the clip on the rear of the device (fold upwards). The red V ~
LED lights up if a phase is detected! Touching the metal clip increases the sensitivity of the electronics, so
that alternating voltages can be detected to within a distance of a few millimetres. Touching the metal clip is
not a source of danger!
4.) Battery change
Lever the upper part of the housing upwards with the help of a screwdriver inserted between the nub and the
middle jack, (see figure 4). To remove the lid, unhook downwards. Ensure correct polarity when inserting the
new batteries. Please do not dispose of dead batteries via domestic refuse. A suitable collection point is
generally within easy reach.
DANGER: RISK OF DEATH!
Remove all measurement leads before opening the device!
5.) Torch Lamp
Slide the switch on the side of the device downwards. The high-performance LED can provide up to 80 hours
of lighting. Operational lifetime of the LED: > 100,000 hours.
