Is there a problem?
Brown liquid comes through
the holes of the soleplate
and stains the clothing.
The iron soleplate is dirty (or
brown) : it may stain the
linen.
Possible causes
You are using chemical des-
caling agents.
Use of demineralized water,
battery liquid, defrosted
refrigerator water, water from
a condenser clothes dryer or
water from a water softener.
Use of additives in the water
for ironing (lavender water,
finish...).
Matter other than scale,

water is not only made up of
scale, but also other mineral
salts.
Build-up of charred "clothing"
fluff in the holes of the
soleplate or in the space
between the iron cover and
the soleplate.
Ironing at an excessively
high temperature.
Linen insufficiently rinsed or
use of starch.
The iron has been
accidentally dropped: the
thermostat is out of order.
