7. Setting the number of bubbles
Rule of thumb for the basic setting*: start with approx. 20 bubbles per
minute per 100 l of aquarium water, i.e. for a 200-l aquarium, for
example, use 2 x 20 = 40 bubbles per minute.
Adjust the CO
supply to the desired CO
content in small steps spread
2
2
over several days. Please note: The more vigorously the surface of the
water is set in motion (e.g. by filters, additional aeration), the more
CO
will be expelled from the aquarium again.
2
• Slowly open the needle valve, initially only very slightly, until the
first bubbles issue from the opening of the bubble counter in the
Micro-Perler (green part).
• Set the desired number of bubbles on
-
the needle valve: - Turn in clockwise
+
direction to reduce the number of bub-
bles- Turn in anti-clockwise direction to
increase the number of bubbles.
Please note: There is always a certain delay before the number of bub-
bles changes in response to adjustment of the needle valve. The num-
ber of bubbles should thus be set with due care.
• Check the number of bubbles regularly in the first few days, correc-
ting as necessary. After this initial period it is generally sufficient to
check the number of bubbles once a week.
• Fit the protective cap to the needle valve to prevent unintentional
adjustment.
* IMPORTANT: These bubble counts apply for the Micro-Perler only.
Different bubble counts may apply when using different diffusors, as the
bubble size is highly dependent on the equipment used. Please obser-
ve the relevant instructions for use.
DENNERLE professional tip:
• It is easiest to measure the CO
content using the DENNERLE
2
CO
Long-term test Correct. The test directly and permanent-
2
ly indicates the CO
content of the aquarium water on the basis of
2
its color. GREEN corresponds to the optimum value of between 20
and 25 mg/l. Further aids or water testing to determine CO
are not necessary!
Care and maintenance
8. Replacing the CO
cylinder
2
• Remove protective cap from needle valve. Close needle valve by tur-
ning in clockwise direction. Caution: Tighten only gently!
• Unscrew pressure reducer from CO
cylinder and screw onto new
2
CO
cylinder. Note: You may notice a brief "hiss" when screwing or
2
unscrewing the pressure reducer, similar to the sound when you
open a bottle of mineral water.
• Reset number of bubbles. Refit protective cap on needle valve.
New disposable CO
cylinders are available from specialist retailers.
2
TIP: Always keep a reserve CO
cylinder. Then you won't encounter any
2
difficulties should you run out of CO
at the weekend, for example.
2
During prolonged periods out of use the pressure reducer
12
should be unscrewed. The valve of the disposable cylinder which still
contains CO
will close automatically.
2
9. Examining the special CO
check valve
2
The check valve protects your valuable pressure reducer from corrosion
caused by back-flowing water. It will operate reliably over a very long
period. However, as dust and metal particles may collect on the sealing
surfaces over the course of time, the check valve should be examined
every 2 years at the latest and replaced if necessary.
Examination procedure:
• Close needle valve on CO
pressure reducer.
2
• After 24 hours, unscrew the coupling ring on the side of the check
valve facing the pressure reducer.
• Pull off CO
hose and check whether any water has entered into the
2
hose. If so: Replace check valve. If not: Reconnect hose to check
valve.
• Reset number of bubbles.
Don't worry: An effectively functioning aquarium will normally have no
problem coping without a CO
supply for 24 hours.
2
Important note: Use only check valves designed for use with CO
as the special CO
check valve from DENNERLE. Standard air
2
check valves may become brittle through contact with CO
a short space of time, resulting in leaks. This usually goes unnoticed.
10. Cleaning the CO
Micro-Perler
2
If necessary, clean Micro-Perler using water and a brush. Do not use
any detergents. The ceramic diffusor can be removed for cleaning by
unscrewing the black screw cap.
11. Replacing the washer in the pressure reducer
The self-locking, maintenance-free Longlife washer in the connection
socket of the pressure reducer will normally function effectively over
many years. Should you be unable to produce a connection which does
not leak despite screwing on the pressure reducer several times (with-
out canting!), the washer is presumably worn out and should be repla-
levels
ced.
2
• For this purpose, insert a small screwdri-
ver or similar behind the washer from
the side and carefully lever the washer
out. Be careful not to damage the
connecting thread, the pressure pin or
the sealing surface! Be sure to verify
that no foreign matter (dust, dirt par-
ticles, metal chips, etc.) enters into the opening of the pressure
reducer!
• Blow air through the connection socket in order to clean it.
• Carefully press the new washer into position using a suitable, non-
metallic object. Be careful not to damage the washer and the
connection socket. Check that the washer is fitted correctly in place.

Upgrade options
Level 1: The DENNERLE CO

saves valuable CO
Level 2: The DENNERLE pH controller 588 Digital
Comfort measures the pH value in the aquarium conti-
nuously and controls the pH value and the CO
cisely and fully automatically via the CO
valve Comfort.
Professional tips from DENNERLE:
• Large quantities of valuable CO
king CO
hoses. We thus recommend the special Softflex CO
2
hose from DENNERLE.
• Even when using CO
diffusors with integrated bubble counter, it is
2
nevertheless expedient to install an additional bubble counter close
to the pressure reducer. This enables the number of bubbles to be
set even more simply, quickly and exactly. The DENNERLE CO
bubble counter Exact offers the ultimate in user-friendly reading
coupled with exceptional precision: The CO
CO
bubble counter Exact have a mean weight of 0.125 mg and a
2
volume of 0.063 ml. 10 bubbles per minute thus correspond to a
CO
supply of 1.8 g or 0.9 litres per day.
