Preparing the appliance
Remove all the packaging.
Wash the water container, milk pitcher, milk pitcher lid, steam nozzle, wand and
portafilter thoroughly with water and mild detergent (cf. also "If using a large cup, place it
directly on the drip tray grating under the coffee spout on the portafilter. If using a small
cup, pull out the shelf and place the cup on it. Do not pull the shelf out completely in
order to maintain a firm surface. " on page 72). Rinse the parts well with clean water and
dry them carefully.
Place the appliance on a heat-resistant, sturdy, level surface.
Run a machine cycle without coffee and milk in order to remove manufacturing residues.
Fill both containers with water and follow the instructions below, then throw the water
away.
7.
Using the espresso machine
Fill the water container with fresh tap water to a level between the MIN and MAX
marks.
Fill the milk pitcher with milk (unskimmed, semi-skimmed, soya milk, etc. according to
preference) to a level between the MIN and MAX marks.
Place the required filter insert in the portafilter with the spout pointing forwards. Turn
the filter insert to the right or left in order to clamp the filter insert in the portafilter.
Alternatively, you can raise the filter holder and grip the filter with it, e.g. when removing
the coffee grounds.
Fill the filter with freshly ground espresso coffee up to the MAX mark.
Press the coffee powder down into the filter, using the flat end of the measuring spoon to
help (see diagrams below).
