IMPORTANT
ICAN Filtering face masks are categorised and approved according to the three classifications in EN 149:
2001 – FFP1, FFP2 and FFP3. Before reading through this manual you must therefore examine the category
to which the mask in question belongs. This is indicated on the packing and on the mask itself. It is the user's
responsibility to select the mask that provides the required protection against the type and concentration of
contaminant(s) that exist in the area where the mask is to be used. The maximum level of use of the mask
concerned: The limit value for the particles concerned (LV) x the nominal protection factor of the mask NPF)
– (see table on the back page). If the mask is marked D, it is particularly well suited for use in areas with
significant dust content. ICAN Filtering face masks may generally only be used against solid and liquid
particles which cannot give off dangerous vapours. In the case of dangerous vapours and/or concentrations
of contaminant(s) is higher than ICAN filtering face masks are able to resist, examine the possibility of using
ICAN HALF MASK, ICAN FULL FACE, ICAN TURBO UNIT and ICAN AIR SUPPLY.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
• Put on the mask and check it for leakage-tightness before entering a contaminated area
• Keep the mask on at all time when staying in a contaminated area
• Discard the mask and replace it with a new one if:
a. The mask is damaged
b. Breathing becomes difficult
c. The mask is removed inside a contaminated area
d. Discard the mask at the end of each work shift at the latest
e. The date by which the mask must be used is exceeded, (see symbol on the pack)
• Leave the contaminated area immediately if you experience breathing difficulties, dizziness or other
discomfort.
• Store unused masks unopened in a dry, uncontaminated place, at between -20°C and +40°C. (Max. 80%
relative humidity)
INSTRUCTIONS ON PUTTING ON AND ADJUSTING THE MASK
(See illustrations on the back page)
1. Adjust the elastics as required: a) ICAN 92xx is adjusted by pulling the elastics in the middle of the elastic
holder. b) ICAN 94xx is adjusted by pulling the elastic on one side of the clip whilst holding the opposite
side of the clip. c) ICAN 9440, however, is adjusted by pulling the end of each elastic to tighten, and
pushing the back of the buckle to loosen.
2. Place the mask under your chin so that the noseclip points upwards, and pull the elastics over your head.
3. Position the bottom strap at the back of your neck – under your ears, and the top strap around the back of
your head – over your ears. Fit the noseclip over the root of the nose by pushing with both hands from the
root of the nose and down along the sides of the nose.
4. Check that the mask is leak-tight:
a. Cover the mask with both hands
b. Inhale sharply and you should be aware of a vacuum in the mask. If air flows in between the mask and
your face, adjust the noseclip and elastic until the mask is tight and there is a vacuum in the mask.
(People with a beard or hair stuck between the face and mask cannot expect to be effectively
protected). In such cases examine the possibility of using the ICAN TURBO UNIT
WARNINGS / RESTRICTIONS ON USE
• The mask may only be used in well ventilated areas with a minimum oxygen concentration of 19%
• The mask does not protect against gases and dangerous vapours
• The mask must not be used if the contamination or concentration is not known or there is an immediate
risk to life and health
• The mask must not be used in explosive atmospheres
• Avoid altering the design of the mask
• The user must be instructed in the correct use of the mask
• If you do not follow the instructions and pay heed to the warnings given you cannot expect to be
adequately protected. This may result in illness or disability.
