Instructions for re-seasoning
DE
If the patina has been damaged and your Rotating Waffle Iron starts to rust it must be re-seasoned.
EN
Proceed as follows:
• Remove the rust thoroughly with a wire brush. Clean the Rotating Waffle Iron with hot water, dish-
FR
washing detergent and a dishwashing brush. Dry well.
• Grease the entire surface of the cast-iron halves inside and out with Petromax Care Conditioner, a
neutral oil or vegetable fat. Do not use olive oil or other types of fat with a lower smoke point, for
they burn too quickly.
• Open your Rotating Waffle Iron and place for instance in a preheated kettle grill at approximately 180 °C.
The wooden handles should always protrude from the grill and thus not come into direct contact
with the heat of the fire. Let the Rotating Waffle Iron bake for about 1-2 hours and leave to cool down
slowly afterwards with the grill slightly open. Then, once again apply a thin layer of Petromax Care
Conditioner for Cast and Wrought Iron or a neutral, high-temperature oil on the inside and outside
of your Rotating Waffle Iron. Now your Iron is ready for use again. When you use an alternative heat
source for re-seasoning strictly observe the safety instructions.
Use with Petromax Atago
Due to the custom-fit support frame the Petromax Atago is the ideal outdoor cooking place for the
Rotating Waffle Iron. The support frame is simply placed on the Atago top edge and the Waffle Iron
inserted. The Atago grilling grate is not needed. As soon as the Iron is well preheated and greased you
can pour in your batter and simply bake the waffles on both sides by means of the practical rotating
function.
As fuel for the Atago firewood as well as high-quality briquettes are suitable. Briquettes are, however,
easier to use, always have the same size and the embers produce long lasting heat. That way you can
better adjust the temperature. Initially, it is safer to start off with fewer briquettes and little by little
determine the appropriate quantity. When using firewood, you need to test some more: Each type of
wood burns differently and creates different embers. Also keep in mind that your waffles might brown
too much on the outside and not be completely done on the inside when baked directly over blazing
flames. At this point for instance use small flames or embers. Often it suffices to preheat the Iron in
the fire and exclusively use the stored heat for baking the batter.
