MusiCONTROL
– Thermo-Hygrometer
Field of operation and all the benefits of your new instrument at a
glance
• For optimum storage of musical instruments
• Control of room temperature and indoor relative air humidity
• Maximum and minimum values
• Clef as an indicator of ideal storage conditions
• Alarm function
The electronic thermo-hygrometer MusiCONTROL is ideal to measure the
ambient climate, so as to allow instruments to be stored in optimum condi-
tions.
Storage of musical instruments:
• Instruments that are entirely or partially made of wood are hygroscopic,
i.e. they react to humidity.
• If the humidity is high the wood absorbs moisture and swells. If the sur-
rounding air is too dry, moisture is drawn out of the wood. The result is
that the musical instruments are bent out of shape, the varnish is dam-
aged, cracks caused by dryness appear and the sound is affected. Serious
damage involving costly repairs may also occur.
• A relative humidity of 45-65 % should be maintained for the optimum
storage of musical instruments in order to preserve their value and their
sound. It is particularly critical if the humidity falls to below 40 % or
exceeds 75 %. The ideal humidity is 50-55 %.
• The temperature should also be as constant as possible; strong and rapid
fluctuations are to be avoided. The ideal storage temperature is 10-20 °C.
Tips:
• Always store instrument in case or cover
• Do not hang instrument on the wall (fluctuating climate, dust, risk of
mechanical damage)
• Best stored in moderately heated rooms (e.g. bedroom)
• Avoid severe temperature fluctuations
• In summer never leave instruments in car
• Avoid direct sunlight (even if stored in case)
• Do not place near radiators or underfloor heating
• If the room air is too dry, particularly in wintertime, then electrical air
humidifiers are recommended.
Operation:
Startup:
• Lightly push the silver battery lid on the front down and open the bat-
tery compartment. Remove the battery safety strip. Close the battery
compartment again.
• Remove the protective foil from the display. The unit is now ready to use.

Display:
• The left row shows the indoor relative humidity and the right row the
room temperature. The temperature unit can be changed from °C to °F
by the °C/°F-button at the backside.
Humidity alarm:
• If the humidity is between 45 % and 65 %, a clef appears on the display
as an indicator of ideal storage conditions. If the humidity falls to below
45 % or rises above 65 % the treble clef starts to flash. If levels are below
40 % or above 75 %, the note key disappears and the red light flashes.
• The warning signal can be switched on and off with the slide switch on
the back.
MIN / MAX temperatures:
• Press the MIN / MAX button and the highest temperature and humidity is
displayed since the last reset.
• Press the MIN / MAX button again, the display shows the lowest tempera-
ture and humidity since the last reset.
• To go back to the present values, press the MIN / MAX button once more.
• Press the RESET button, while the maximum and minimum values are dis-
played to clear the recorded maximum and minimum readings and the
actual values appear.
Placing or hanging up the unit:
• A circular opening is provided on the backside of the unit for
hanging on the wall. To place the unit in the standing position use the
stand supplied with the unit.
• Since the humidity in rooms can vary greatly depending on the part of
the room, place the monitoring device as close as possible to the music
instrument.
Care and maintenance
• Clean your instrument with a soft damp cloth. Do not use solvents or scour-
ing agents
• Remove the batteries if you do not use it for a long period of time
• Keep the instrument in a dry place.
Battery replacement
• Remove the stand if necessary. Lightly push the silver battery lid on the
front down and open the battery compartment. Replace the batteries
(2 x 1.5 V AA). Do not use rechargeable batteries. Close the battery com-
partment again.
