3. Before use
a) Ensure that you are fit enough to use a ladder. Some medical conditions or medication, alcohol or drug abuse could make the
ladder use unsafe.
b) When transporting ladders on roof bars or in a truck, ensure they are suitably placed to prevent damage.
c) Inspect the ladder after delivery and before each use to confirm condition and correct operation of all parts, according to the list
of items to inspect attached (Appendix A). Regular periodic inspection is recommended.
d) Ensure the ladder is suitable for the task.
e) Do not use a damaged ladder.
f) Remove any contamination from the ladder, such as wet paint, mud, oil or snow.
g) Before using the ladder at work, a risk assessment should be carried out respecting the legislation in the country of use.
h) Open the standing or combination ladder fully before use.
i) Identify any electrical risks in the workspace, such as overhead power lines or other exposed electrical equipment.
