1
Correct usage
The SE-HL device for bench mounting has been
designed to hold the Festool HL 850 EB planes so
that it can be operated upside down as station-
ary tool.
2
Preparatory work on the plane
Set the plane to a cutting depth of 0 mm and lock
with the locking lever.
If your plane has no marking (2.1) on the front you
will have to mark it yourself. The mark should be
made on the edge of the housing, roughly in the
middle as shown in Fig. 2.
3
Installation as operational device
3.1
Assembly of the device for bench mount-
ing
Lay the base plate (1.15) on a fl at, fi rm surface
(table top) with the anti-slip coating on the un-
derside.
Insert the two square nuts into the grooves (1.9
+ 1.12) to fasten the rear plane mounting (1.7) on
one end of the base plate.
The rear plane mounting is fastened fl ush with the
end of the base plate using the Allen screws (1.8)
and tooth lock washers. The two remaining square
nuts are inserted into the front groove (1.12) at the
other end of the base plate and the front plane
mounting (1.16) fi tted in the same manner.
These fastening screws should not yet be fully
tightened so that the mounting can be moved.
The starting clip (1.13) is fastened in the bore hole
(1.7) in the mounting by the enclosed chain.
3.2
Fitting the plane
Before fitting the plane in the device
for bench mounting unplug from the
mains.
The planes have a through bore at the rear of the
housing for installation in the device for bench
mounting.
Turn the plane upside down, insert into the rear
mounting (1.7) and push the bolts (1.11) through
the eyes (1.4 and 1.6) and bore hole in the hous-
ing before fastening with the rotary knob (1.10).
Move the front mounting (1.16) so that the locating
surfaces (1.2) fi t in the guide groove of the rebate
depth stop on the plane housing. Lock the plane by
turning the rotary knob screw with a short thread
(1.14) through the eye (1.17) in the threaded bore
for the rebate depth stop. Now tighten the Allen
screw for the front mounting.
3.3
Adjusting the cutting depth to scale
Push the scale ring (2.2) onto the plane's addi-
tional hand grip (2.3) with the mm scale pointing
inwards. Turn the scale ring until the zero position
is exactly in line with the marking on the plane
housing (2.1). If you release the plane's cutting
depth lock you can now set the desired cutting
depth on the scale by turning the additional hand
grip.

Safety instructions
Please read before starting work!
4.1
Swivel hood
The swivel hood (1.3) automatically covers the
planer head when not in use.
Do always use the swivel hood!
4.2
Using a stop
The stop must always be used so that that part of
the planer head which is not in use is covered at
every planing width.
4.3
Using a feed device
A feed device should be used when planing small
workpieces.
4.4
Fastening the device for bench mount-
ing
Before starting work make sure that the device
for bench mounting is fi xed securely to the base
(table), for example with clamps.
5
Starting
Push the switch clip with groove (1.13) onto the
guide plate (1.5) of the rear mounting and onto
the plane's pistol switch until you feel a slight
resistance.
To switch the plane on, press the plane's switch
lock and push the switch clip fully onto the han-
dle.
Remove the switch clip to turn the plane off.
6
Working with a stop
The plane can be used with the parallel stop PA-
HL, included with the plane, or the angle stop
WA-HL, available as an accessory.
Both are fastened in the same threaded bore
alongside the rear plate (see the operating in-
structions for the plane).
