the lid for about 30 minutes at a
temperature setting of 50ºC.
∙ Then, let the appliance operate for a
further 15 minutes on the 'Cooking'
setting. The cooker is now ready for

continuously adjustable thermostat (see
diagram).
Hints for food preservation
∙ To ensure that the preserved food will
keep for as long as possible, cleanliness
and thorough preparation are essential.
∙ Fruit and vegetables should be of good
quality, fresh and ripe.
∙ Additional information on the various
methods of preserving fruit or vegetables
is available in numerous cook books.
Preparing the food to be preserved
Wash the whole fruit or vegetables
thoroughly and let them dry; do not cut
them. Green beans and peas keep longer if
you briefl y blanch them fi rst.
Preparing the jars, lids and lid fasteners
∙ Glass jars, tins, bottles and all lids should
be washed carefully in hot soapy water,
then rinsed with clean water and placed
on a clean cloth until the water has run
off.
∙ Check all containers, lids etc. for stubborn
residues and damaged pieces.
∙ Leave the rubber seals and fasteners
in clear water until they are needed. Do
not use any porous, damaged or over-
stretched rubber rings or caps.
∙ Fill the jars or tins up to 2 cm below the
rim; when preserving pulpy items (apple
purée etc.) leave 3 to 4 cm below the rim.
When preserving sausage fi ll containers
only three quarters full.
∙ Close the containers tightly with their
screw-on lids or clamps.
Preserving food
∙ Put the grid insert inside the container. Do
not place a cloth between the container
bottom and the grid insert.
∙ Fill the container with at least 6 litres of
water.
∙ Place the prepared glass jars on the
grid insert in the cooker. The water
temperature should be approximately that
of the jars; this will save time and energy.
Note:
∙ The highest glass jars (i.e. those on the
upper level) must be ¾ submerged. If
both levels are being used, the lower-
level jars will be completely submerged.
∙ Attach the lid.
∙ Connect the appliance to the mains
power.
∙ Use the temperature control to select the
correct setting in accordance with the
'Preservation cooking timetable' (see
at the end of this instruction manual). The
pilot light comes on and the appliance
starts heating up.
