- Loosen the locking arm (18) and insert the tool rest (11) into the tool rest base, adjust the height up or down and
tighten the locking arm (18).
3.7 Attach the live center (Fig 11)
The Live Center (5) is used for turning between centers. Both live center and the quill have MT-2 tapers.
- Insert the live center (5) into the tailstock quill (19).
- To remove the live center from the tailstock quill, loosen the locking arm (4) and rotate the hand wheel (2)
counterclockwise to retract the spindle into the body of the tailstock. The live center will be pushed out of the
spindle.
3.8 Install the tool holder (Fig 12)
- Install the tool holder (20) onto the lathe bed with two pan head screws (30).
CAUTION:
To prevent accidents, make sure to turn the switch off and disconnect to the plug from the power
receptacle.
The machine must not be plugged in and the power switch must be in the OFF position until the
installation is complete.
4.1 Adjusting the tailstock (Fig 13)
- Loosen the locking lever (1) to move the tailstock along the lathe bed to desired position, and then
tighten the lever.
- To adjust the tailstock sleeve in or out, loosen the locking arm (4) and turn the handwheel (2). When the tailstock
sleeve is in the desired position, tighten the locking arm (4).
4.2 Adjusting the tool rest (Fig 14 & 15)
The tool rest base can be easily moved along the lathe bed.
- Loosen the locking lever (13) counterclockwise, slide the tool rest base (10) to the new position, and tighten the
locking lever (13) clockwise (Fig 14).
- NOTE: Position the tool rest as close to the work piece as possible. It should be 3mm above the centerline of the
workpiece (Fig 15).
4.3 Headstock indexing holes (Fig 16)
The largest Spindle Pulley has 24 positioning holes located around its left side. Each index hole is 15° apart, and
marked for reference around the perimeter of the pulley.
- Insert the Indexing Pin (16) into one of these holes, and the spindle will be locked so that work can be done on
the workpiece.
CAUTION:
- Never start the lathe with the index pin engaged in the spindle, or damage to the machine will result.
- Never engage the headstock spindle lock while the spindle is turning, or damage to the lathe will result.
4.4 Changing belt speeds (Fig 18 & 19)
- Open the top Headstock Cover (25) and the left side, Bed Cover Plate Door (26) to gain access to the belt and
pulleys that are inside of the headstock.
- Loosen the motor mount Locking Handle (27).
- Lift the Motor Connecting Plate Handle (28) to loosen the tension on the Poly V-Belt. The belt can now be
repositioned on the upper Spindle Pulley and lower Motor Pulley for the desired speed range setting.
NOTE:
- The 'High' speed range (1,300-3850 rpm) provides maximum speed.
- The 'Low' speed range (250-750 rpm) will provide maximum torque.
See the Speed Chart on paragraph 5.2 for recommended speeds based on the diameter of the workpieces being
turned.
- With the Poly V-Belt positioned on the pulleys, lower the Motor Connecting Plate (28) so that the weight of the
motor provides the needed tension on the belt. Then re-tighten the Locking Handle (27).
- Close the Headstock Cover (25) and Bed Cover Plate Door (26) to protect the belt, pulleys and internal working
from dust.
