h) Audio Recording (On/Off): Here you can choose whether audio should be record-
ed in video mode or not.
i) Automatic Off: Here you can determine when the camera should automatically be
deactivated when in setup mode – after 3, 5 or 10 minutes.
j) LCD display duration: Here you can determine when the LCD display should
automatically be deactivated after 1, 3 or 5 minutes.
k) Flash: The intensity of the infrared LED flash can be selected – Automatic, high
or low.
l) Timer Setting: OFF/ON: Here you can determine times of the day in which the
camera should be active - up to 2 time periods a day (that should not overlap).
If this function has been selected, the start and stop times can be set. The timer
setting makes sense if the DTC 550 is to be used, for example, to observe a
construction site during working hours.
m) Date and time: Here you can set the date and time that should appear in the
timestamp.
n) Time format: Select either 12 or 24 hour time format.
o) Time stamp: Select "On" if you wish the date, time, temperature and moon phase
to appear in the timestamp of your recorded images or "Off" if the timestamp
should not appear.
p) Camera Name: Here you can assign a 4 digit "name" to your camera – either
numbers, letters or a combination of both can be used. This can be helpful if more
than one camera is being used in a particular area and to identify which camera
recorded images in which particular area of surveillance.
q) Password On/Off: This enables you to enter a four digit PIN number to prevent
unauthorized access to your camera. The PIN is requested while in TEST mode
each time you turn the camera on and is required before you can use the camera.
(If you cannot remember your PIN, the camera must be sent together with the
purchase slip to our service centre.).
r) Language: Here you can select the desired language.
s) Format: The SD card can be formatted with the DTC 550. Warning: By formatting
the SD card, ALL files will be irrevocably deleted. Please make sure you have
backed you files up on a PC before formatting your SD card.
t) Default: Here, all settings of the camera can be reset to the predefined factory
settings. Select YES and push OK to save your setting.

u) System: Choose from two options: Select "FW Update" to update the firmware.
Select "FW Version" to check the currently installed firmware version.
Further functions and settings found in the Playback Menu are described later.

Operating the camera

Switch your DTC 550 to "ON" mode (main switch right). In this mode, your DTC 550
will automatically use the most previous settings made while in the Settings Mode.
Note: The blue activation LED will blink several seconds before the camera
enters operational mode. When the LED stops blinking, the camera is ready to
record images and videos in accordance with your settings.
Night mode:
For night-shots, the necessary lighting is provided by the infrared LEDs on the front
of the camera. The maximum recording distance in the dark is about 15 meters (49
feet). Due to the nature of the infrared lighting, night-shots are in black and white.
Aligning the camera:
The wide angle of the camera lens makes aligning your camera quite simple: a
rough eye alignment is enough at first. Then pay particular attention to the vertical
tilt, i.e. the correct inclination of the camera. This is especially important when the
camera is not mounted on straight, vertical posts or surfaces. Once you have found
a good position, switch the camera to SETUP mode.
Now move in front of the camera from one side to the other. The activated LED
indicates that movement in front of the camera has been detected. In operational
mode, this would mean that the camera would record an image. In this way, you can
roughly determine if your camera is properly aligned, which is usually sufficient
in most situations.
