Aquarium Setup Instructions
1
Where should I put my aquarium?
Choose a flat, level, water-resistant surface, near an electrical outlet.
Aquariums ten gallons and larger should be placed on a commercially
manufactured aquarium stand. Do not place on top of electronics or in an
entertainment center. Avoid heat sources, air conditioners, and direct sunlight,
to maintain proper temperature, and to prevent excessive algae growth.
Always place an aquarium in a location designed to support its total weight.
NOTE: Filled with water and gravel, a 10 gallon aquarium can weigh more
than 100 lbs. and a 20 gallon aquarium can weigh more than 200 lbs.
For maximum security, aquarium stands should be anchored or tethered to a wall to provide stability.
2
Rinse Before Use
Use a new, damp, soft cloth to rinse
and clean new aquariums inside
and out. Rinse all gravel, plants,
decorations, and filter cartridges prior to
placing into the aquarium. Rinse gravel
in a new bucket with clean water.
TIP: Never use household soaps
or chemicals on aquariums,
décor, or equipment, due to
the harm they may cause to
fish and equipment.

Add Gravel
Place 1 to 1.5 inches of gravel in the bottom of the aquarium.
This may vary in weight, but is generally 1-2 pounds of gravel for every gallon of water.
TIP: Slope the gravel bed gradually down from the back to the front
to add depth to your aquascaping.

and chloramines, and make the water safe for your goldfish. Add two teaspoons
(10ml) for every 10 gallons (38 liters) of water. Always dechlorinate tap water
before adding livestock, as untreated water can harm your fish.
Always fill aquarium with room temperature water. Cool water can cause
condensation on the outside of the glass, giving the appearance of leakage.
Fill the aquarium approximately 2/3 full, leaving space to allow placement of
plants, décor, and filtration during set up.
TIP: When filling the aquarium, to avoid disturbing the gravel, place a small
clean dish on top of the gravel and pour water onto the dish.
