USE
1. Ensure that the environment is safe for the transfer to take place. When satisfied, place the patient transfer assistant in front
of the service user.
2. Ensure that the service user's feet are placed on the base plate, using the foot markers as a guide. The legs should be in a
comfortable position, cushioned by the leg supports. To facilitate a comfortable position, adjust the height of the lower leg
supports so that the top is approximately two inches below the service user's knees.
3. Once you are sure that the patient transfer assistant is correctly positioned, lock both wheels by depressing a brake pedal.
Both wheels will lock regardless of which side you are walking on.
NB: The wheels must always be locked when the user stands up and sits down!
4. If the user needs help to stand up using the ladder belt or harness, place it safely around the user.
a. Place the ladder sling behind the user, with the non-slip material against the body and the lower edge resting on the seat
cushion.
b. If using the harness, place the lower section just below the user and the upper section against the lower back. Then secure
with the clasp.
Your method of applying a counterweight should be reviewed and approved as part of your risk assessment.
