Installation instructions
Note: Though the plastic shell casing is waterproof (IPX6 rated), this does not
necessarily mean it is weather-resistant. We recommend installing your energizer
within a weatherproof box, out of reach of children, and, if possible, away from
direct sunlight.
An electric fence works via a circuit. The earth lead (black) runs from the earth
stakes to the energizer. The fence lead (red) runs from the fence to the energizer.
Finally, the battery leads connect the battery to the energizer, which supplies the
power. Electricity flows from the energizer, through the fence, and into the earth
stakes where it is grounded (the ground completes the circuit). For safety, the
setup and installation of the energizer must follow this order. Do not connect the
battery or turn on the switch until all other steps are complete.
Connecting the earth stakes of the energizer
1. Fix the ring end of the earth lead (black) to the earth stakes (not included).
2. Loosen the black earth socket cap at the end of the earth lead on the
energizer until the cap is released. Place the ring end over the bolt, and re-
tighten the cap.
3. If you plan to attach the energizer to a solid surface (e.g., timber or concrete
wall), follow the instructions for "Installing the Earth-based Grounding
System" first, and then return to this step.
4. Once grounded, attach the energizer to a solid structure. Ensure:
o
There is no risk of mechanical damage or fire to the energizer.
o
The battery leads can be easily attached or detached.
o
The energizer is upright.
Installing the earth-based grounding system
An effective fence system relies heavily on an adequate earth-based grounding
system. This system creates an electrical circuit that allows electricity to pass
through the energizer, into the fence, and back to the ground. If the grounding is
inadequate, it will significantly affect the performance of your product.
Do not use sand, gravel, or dry soil in your grounding area, as these materials
will not conduct electricity effectively. Moist soil is the best place to plant
your grounding system.
To ensure effective grounding, place the earth stake at least 200 mm into the
ground and make sure it stands firmly upright.
