Caution
For protection against excessive pressures and temperatures in this water
heater, install temperature and pressure protective equipment as required by
local codes, but not less than a combination temperature and pressure relief
valve meeting the requirements for Relief Valves and Automatic Gas Shutoff
Devices for Hot Water Supply Systems, ANSI Z21.22. certified by a nationally
recognized testing laboratory that maintains periodic inspection of production
listed equipment and materials. This valve must be marked with a maximum
set pressure not to exceed the marked maximum working pressure of the
water heater. Install the T&P valve into the top or side opening provided and
marked for this purpose on the water heater, and plumb down so that
discharge can exit only within 6 inches above, or at any distance below, the
structural floor, and does not contact any live electrical part. The discharge
opening must not be blocked or reduced in size under any circumstances.
Filling The Water Heater
Warning
Risk of Unit Damage - Never use this water heater unless it is completely full
of water. The water heater warranty does not cover damage or failure resulting
from operation with an empty or partially empty tank.
1. Close the drain valve completely. Open the cold water supply valve to the
water heater. Note: The cold water supply valve must be left open when
the water heater is in use.
2. Open the nearest hot water faucet slowly to allow the air to vent from the
water heater and piping.
3. Check all water piping and connections for leaks. Repair as needed. Never
alter or modify the certified construction of the water heater or its
components, or bypass any safety features. Doing so voids all warranties.
4. A steady flow of water from the hot water faucet(s) indicates a full water
heater tank.
Condensation can form on the tank and fittings when the water heater is first
filled with water. Condensation may also occur with a heavy water draw and
very cold inlet water temperature. This condition is not unusual and will
disappear once water becomes heated. However, if the condensation should
continue, examine fittings for potential leaks and repair, as required.
