DALI MCU TW / Operating instructions
Application and function
The DALI MCU TW allows manual brightness and color temperature control of fixtures equipped with ECG that comply with DALI Device
Type 8 standard (IEC 62386-209) for tunable white lighting. The DALI MCU TW can be directly supplied out of the DALI control wire
(=passive operation) or source the necessary supply current by itself, if it is connected to mains voltage (=active operation). By a paral-
lel connection of several DALI MCUs the number of points of operation respectively the number of controllable fixtures can be easily
increased. If several DALI MCU are connected in parallel, the commands of the last operated DALI MCU are valid, all other MCU also
listen to this commands. Therefore a change of the point of operation is possible at any time without disturbing side effects like a jump
in brightness or color temperature. The included cover of the MCU can be replaced with corresponding covers usual in the trade from different
installation equipment manufacturers.
Buildup of several points of operation
Up to 4 DALI MCU TW can be interconnected. Each mains powered DALI MCU TW (= active DALI MCU TW) is able to supply up to 25
DALI ECG and an additional DALI MCU that is not connected to mains (=passive DALI MCU TW). At least one active DALI MCU TW is
required. Ensure correct polarity when interconnecting the DALI wires.
By that following systems sizes are possible:
• One active DALI MCU TW: up to 25 DALI ECG and one passive DALI MCU TW connectible.
• Two active DALI MCU TW: up to 50 DALI ECG and two passive DALI MCU TW connectible.
• Three active DALI MCU TW: up to 75 DALI ECG and one passive DALI MCU TW connectible.
• Four active DALI MCU TW: up to 100 DALI ECG connectible.
Commissioning
Adjusting the minimal brightness level (optional)
When the lighting is at minimal brightness and a clockwise rotation does not directly lead to an increase of the brightness, a higher
minimal brightness should be set as follows:
1. Set the lighting to the minimal brightness level.
2. Rotate the knob slowly clockwise, until the brightness increases first time.
3. Press rotary knob > 10 seconds.
4. Lights will switch off and on again to indicate that a new minimal brightness was stored.
Store color temperature thresholds (recommended)
The color temperature range of the DALI MCU TW may be adapted and limited to the possibilities of the connected luminaires as sub-
sequently described.
Important hint:
When storing a new color temperature threshold please take care that the last rotation with knob pressed has to be clockwise when a
new color temperature threshold for the coldest color should be stored and counter clockwise when a new color temperature threshold
for the warmest color should be stored.
Setting the threshold for the warmest color (=lowest color temperature)
1. Rotate pressed knob counter clockwise until the desired warmest color is reached, keep the knob pressed in this position for more
than 10s.
2. Lights will switch off three times and on again to indicate that the new threshold is stored.
Setting the threshold for the coldest color (=highest color temperature)
1. Rotate pressed knob clockwise until the desired coldest color is reached, keep the knob pressed in this position for more than 10s.
2. Lights will switch off three times and on again to indicate that the new threshold is stored.
Reset minimal brightness level and color temperature thresholds
1. Switch off the light by a short push to the rotary knob.
2. Press the knob for more than 10s.
3. Lights will switch on and off again to indicate that the thresholds and the minimum brightness level is reset to the ex-factory settings.
Operation
Switch the lighting ON and OFF

Store a fixed switch on level
1. Switch on the lights and adjust the brightness to the desired level
2. Push the knob briefly two times (=double click). Storage of the
switch on level is confirmed by a two times blinking
Delete the fixed switch on level
1. Switch off the lights by a short push to the rotary knob.
2. Push the knob briefly two times (=double click). Deletion is
confirmed by a switch on to 100% light level.
