Westinghouse Saf-T-Brace 01100 Instructions D'installation

The Saf-T-Brace easily installs through a 4" diam eter hole in the ceiling. It is U.L. listed for fan support and
®
exceeds the requirem ents of the National Electric Code for fans w eighing up to 70 lbs., for lighting fixtures
m ounted on 16" center joists w eighing up to 150 lbs., and lighting fixtures m ounted on 24" center joists
w eighing up to 50 lbs.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Turn off electrical pow er at breaker!
If there is not a hole w here you w ant to hang the fan, cut a hole in the sheetrock using the electrical box provided as a
tem plate. If no electricity is available, a sw ag kit or w ire cover m ay be used.
1. Clear the installation area of insulation, w iring and existing lightw eight bar hanger. Rem ove w ire attached to the side of
the joist w here Saf-T-Brace
tube over the hole in the sheetrock (figure 1).
2. With both Saf-T-Brace
into the joist; a 7 ⁄ " w rench m ay be required for the final turn to bring bar around to the flat side. Do not install using

w rench. A flat side of tubing m ust be parallel to the sheetrock so that the box bracket w ill hang correctly (figure 2).
3. Snap the bracket over the square tube and center it over the hole (figure 3). M ake sure the screw s are pointed tow ard the
hole in the sheetrock (figure 4).
4. Rem ove one knockout from electrical box and install connector. Pull the w ire dow n through the hole and into the
connector. Insert the electrical box into the hole and onto the bolts of the bracket (figure 6). Secure the box w ith the tw o
nylon locknuts provided, tighten securely (figure 7). Do not overtighten. (If installing Hunter Original Fans, follow the
instructions for Hunter Original Fans).
5. FOR HUNTER ORIGINAL FANS:
Install the tw o coupling nuts on top of the locknuts that hold the box on the bar and tighten securely. (Do not remove the
locknuts). Use the tw o 10-24 x 1" screw s to m ount the Hunter " U" hook (provided w ith the fan) onto the coupling nuts
and tighten securely (figure 5).
6. When you are ready to hang the fan or fixture, rem ove Saf-T-Cap
the threaded inserts, NOT THE ELECTRICAL BOX EARS! Box ears can be used to m ount lightw eight fixtures or cover
plates. Finish installation according to fan or fixture m anufacturer's instructions.
