(7) up to attach the springs (5) to the eyebolt hooks (8). The saddle of the jack will fit into the
circular brace on the upper crossbeam (1) and will be held in place by the pressure of the
springs (5).
OPERATION
You may wish to first practice using the shop press on a piece of scrap material.
CAUTION! Before each use, thoroughly test the hydraulic jack (6) for proper operation
prior to its actual use. If the hydraulic jack appears not to be working properly, follow
the instructions in the Bleeding the Hydraulic Jack section.
CAUTION! Do not operate the hydraulic jack in temperatures colder than -5°C (23°F) as
the oil will thicken and not flow properly.
1. Set the press platform (13) to the desired height using the support rods (14) to hold it in
place. Place the steel plates (12) in the desired position on the press platform (13).
2. Pressing: Use the jack handle to tighten the knob of the oil release valve on the hydraulic
jack (6). Insert the jack handle into the lever linkage assembly on the hydraulic jack (6) and
pump the handle up and down to press the load.
3. Once you have finished pressing the work piece, use the handle to loosen the oil release
valve on the hydraulic jack (6) to release the pressure in the jack. The springs (5) will retract
the jack plate (7) and the hydraulic jack (6) back to its original position.
MAINTENANCE
1. Change the hydraulic oil at least once every three years. To change the hydraulic oil:
a. With the jack completely compressed, remove the oil filler plug.
b. Tip the jack to allow the hydraulic oil to drain out of the housing completely. Dispose of old
hydraulic oil in accordance with local regulations.
c. Completely fill the housing with a high quality hydraulic jack oil (not included) until the oil just
begins to run out of the oil filler hole.
d. Reinstall the oil filler plug.
e. Clean with a clean cloth using a detergent or mild solvent and wipe dry.
2. Check for damaged parts. Before using any tool, any part that appears to be damaged
should be carefully checked to determine that it would operate properly and perform its
intended functions. Check for alignment and binding of moving parts, for broken parts or
mounting fixtures, or for any other condition that may affect proper operation.
3. Use only identical replacement parts or accessories intended for use with the shop press
when servicing. Replace damaged parts immediately.
4. Keep the tool clean. Wipe the tool with a clean cloth and periodically blow out all areas with
compressed air. If compressed air is not available, use a brush to remove dust from areas. Do
not use harsh chemicals or solvents to clean the tool.
5. Regularly inspect all mountings and nuts and bolts to ensure tightness. Should any nuts and
bolts become loose, tighten immediately.
