2 Important Notes
The unit corresponds to all relevant directives of
the EU and is therefore marked with
G
The unit is suitable for indoor use only. Protect
it against dripping water and splash water,
high air humidity, and heat (admissible ambi-
ent temperature range 0 – 40 °C).
G
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth, never
use chemicals or water.
G
No guarantee claims for the unit and no liabil-
ity for any resulting personal damage or mate-
rial damage will be accepted if the unit is used
for other purposes than originally intended, if it
is not correctly connected or operated, or not
repaired in an expert way.
If the unit is to be put out of operation
definitively, take it to a local recycling
plant for a disposal which is not harmful
to the environment.
3 Applications
In connection with the 4-zone amplifier PA-40120,
this microphone unit serves for announcements
in emergency situations, e. g. for alarming or
evacuation. It is equipped with a hand-held
microphone with function monitoring and a
recorder for recording an announcement. The
storing of the recording is non-volatile, i. e. the
recording is maintained even in case of failure of
the voltage supply. If an emergency situation is
signalled (e. g. from a fire alarm system), after an
alarm siren sound the automatic reproduction of
the recording is made via the amplifier. At the
same time the microphone unit emits a visual
and optionally an acoustic warning signal. A fail-
ure of the microphone unit or its microphone is
also signalised to the amplifier and displayed
there.
4 Mounting
Select an optimum mounting place for operating
the unit. At the distance of the mounting holes on
the rear side of the microphone unit screw four
screws or screw hooks into the wall and suspend
the microphone unit there. The connection
cables can be guided through the opening in the
rear side of the housing (30) or through the lower
side of the housing. Remove the pre-punched
plate (31) for guiding the cable through the lower
side.
5 Connections
5.1 Amplifier PA-40120
Connect the RJ45 jack OUTPUT (25) of the
microphone unit, e. g. via the supplied cable, to
the amplifier PA-40120. The amplifier has a con-
nection of its own for each of the 4 PA zones.
Therefore, an emergency announcement can
only be heard in the PA zone for which the micro-
phone unit is connected. The possible cable
length is 1 km as a maximum.
To apply a microphone unit to several PA
zones, the output of the microphone unit has to
be connected in parallel to all desired inputs; i. e.
the conductors of the connection cables must
correspondingly be connected in parallel.
5.2 Additional power supply unit
For connection cables of more than 500 m length
the power supply via the amplifier is not suffi-
cient. In this case connect an additional power
supply unit with 24 V
The required low voltage plug has the dimen-
sions 5.5 / 2.1 mm (outside / inside diameter) with
.
any polarity.
5.3 Alarm device
An emergency situation to which the microphone
unit responds with an automatic announcement
in addition to other actions (
nalled via the connection E / M TRIGGER (27).
Connect here an NO contact (normally open),
e. g. an alarm relay at the output of a fire alarm
system or a basic switch for manual activation.
5.4 Hand-held microphone
Connect the hand-held microphone with its plug
(24) to the jack provided for it and lock it by fas-
tening the cap nut.
Note: The function of the microphone is permanently
monitored by the microphone unit. A microphone which
is defective or not correctly connected is immediately
indicated at the microphone unit and at the amplifier.
5.5 Audio source with line level
To record an announcement, an external audio
source with line level may be an alternative to
the hand-held microphone (e. g. for taking over a
pre-made announcement). Connect this audio
source to the RCA jacks EXT REC INPUT (26).
The jacks are available for stereo signal sources
as L (left) and R (right). As the microphone unit
operates monophonically, the mono sum results
internally from the stereo signals.
5.6 Headphones
To check a recording, stereo headphones with a
minimum impedance of 32 Ω may be connected
to the 6.3 mm jack
As long as headphones are connected to this
jack, the recording is not sent to the amplifier.
to the jack EXT IN (29).
