UTENSILS AND MATERIALS GUIDE
Microwaves are attracted to and absorbed by fat, sugar and water molecules in the
food, causing them to move, producing friction and heat which cooks the food .
1 . Do not heat oil or fat for deep-frying . It is difficult to control the temperature of oil
in microwave oven .
2 . Pierce foods with heavy skins such as potatoes, whole squash, apples and
chestnuts before cooking .
3 . The contents of feeding bottles and baby jars should be stirred or shaken and the
temperature should be checked before serving in order to avoid severe burns .
When microwave cooking, the amount, size and shape, starting temperature,
composition and density of the food affect cooking results . Cookware and dinnerware
must fit on the turntable . Always use oven mitts or pot holders when handling because
any dish may become hot from heat transferred from the food . Do not use cookware
and dinnerware with gold or silver trim .
TESTING COOKWARE, UTENSILS, AND DINNERWARE FOR
MICROWAVE USE
There may be certain non-metallic utensils, cookware, and dinnerware that are
not safe to use for microwaving . If in doubt, you can test the utensil in question by
