ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
WARNING
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire,
electric shock, or injury to persons should be followed, including:
1. Read all instructions before using this water heater.
2. This water heater must be grounded. Connect only to a properly grounded outlet.
3. Install or locate this water heater only in accordance with the provided installation instructions.
4. Use this water heater only for its intended use as described in this manual.
5. Do not use an extension cord set with this water heater. If no receptacle is available adjacent to the water
heater, contact a qualified electrician to have one properly installed.
6. As with any appliance, close supervision is necessary when used by children.
7. Do not operate this water heater if it has a damaged cord or plug, if it is not working properly, or if it has
been damaged or dropped.
8. This water heater should be serviced only by qualified service personnel. Contact the nearest authorized
service facility for examination, repair, or adjustment.
9. Do not use surge protectors or multi-outlet adapters with this water heater.
CAUTION: A damaged power supply cord must be replaced with one supplied by the unit manufacturer and
not repaired.
Electrical Connections: 12 VDC Control Connection
This water heater must be connected to a 12 VDC battery connection through the control switch to turn
on/off both the gas and electric heating element.
The wiring linking the water heater connection point to the control switch location is to be provided by the
installer and routed between the control switch installation location and the water heater. Use a minimum
wire size of 18 AWG, UL or CSA approved wiring. See page
INSTALLING 12 VDC CONNECTIONS
1. Locate the four colored wire bundle on the top of
the water heater and the pre-installed wire bundle
routed from the control switch.
2. Connect the appropriate wire from the water heater
to the pre-installed wire bundle.
• Green - Ground Connection
• White - Electric heating control switch
• Orange - Gas heating control switch
• Blue - Indicator light
NOTE: The electrical connections must be made in
accordance with all local and national codes and
regulations. In the absense of a locale code or
regulation, refer to the latest edition of the National
Electric Code NFPA No. 70.
