1.1 Requirements for switching high-efficiency motors

Turn off and lock out all power supplying this device
before working on this device. Installation and
maintenance work on this device as well as
decommissioning may only be carried out by an
authorized electrician.
Reliable functioning of the equipment is only ensured with
certified components.
The more stringent requirements placed on protection devices
and switchgear used in switching high-efficiency motors are
covered by the new AC-3e utilization category introduced in
the IEC 60947-4-1 product standard.
The AC-3e utilization category takes into account the higher
switch-on characteristic of efficiency-enhanced motors. This
can be seen, for example, in the higher locked rotor current when
starting squirrel-cage motors.
All SIRIUS protection devices and switchgear subject to the
IEC 60947-4-1 product standard fulfil the more stringent
requirements according to the AC-3e utilization category and are
suitable for use in high-efficiency motors.
