Refer to the wiring diagrams and the detailed instructions
supplied with the BVSO for the installation and wiring
procedures. The length of wires supplied with the unit is such
that the safety device must be installed between the flue
outlet of the appliance and the draft regulator, as indicated in
the instructions.
It is further imperative that the BVSO be maintained
annually. Refer to the instructions supplied with the device
for more details.
CAUTION
A positive pressure venting system (Sealed Combustion
System or Direct Vent) MUST NOT use the BVSO.
Follow the instructions supplied with the venting system.
1.9)
FLUE PIPE
The heater should be connected to a chimney or an
approved pre-fabricated flue. The flue pipe should be the
same size as the flue outlet of the unit. It is preferable to
maintain a pitch or rise from the heater to the chimney of 1/4"
per foot. The flue pipe must not be extended past the
chimney inside wall.
1.10)
DRAFT REGULATOR
The draft regulator must be installed between the flue outlet
of the water heater and the chimney. (Installation instructions
are furnished with the regulator).
1.11)
CHIMNEY
For information pertaining to chimney sizes, elevation,
conditions, etc., see C.S.A. standard B-139 "Installation code
for oil burning equipment and supplements".
CAUTION
An oil-fired unit shall be connected to a flue having
sufficient draft at all times to assure proper operation
of the unit.
1.12)
CONTROLS
Mount the aquastat control on the unit. Set operating control
between 120°F (49°C) and 140°F (60°C), which is the
maximum setting for the unit.
1.13)
COMBUSTION OR PRIMARY CONTROL
(ON BURNER)
The purpose of this control is to sequence the operation of
the burner. The first function is to close the burner circuit and
the ignition transformer circuit when the aquastat is in the
demand mode and also to open the burner circuit when the
water temperature is attained. The second function is to
shut-off the oil burner in the event of ignition, oil, flame or
power failure.
1.14)
WIRING
Connect the BX harness from aquastat to the side of burner
relay junction box. Wire oil burner and controls according to
the attached wiring diagram. Field wiring should be to the top
of the aquastat.

1.15)
The nozzle is installed in the burner; however, the nozzle
and electrode location must be checked and adjusted as per
Table 2, p. 8. Mount the burner on the water heater and use
the gasket supplied between burner mounting flange and the
water heater.
1.16)
Refer to Technical Specifications at the end of this manual,
Table 2, p. 8.
1.17)
The fuel oil pump is designed for pressure atomizing type oil
burner service and has a built-in pressure regulating valve
and oil filter. Connections are provided for both one pipe and
two pipe systems. Pump pressure is adjusted to 100 P.S.I.,
set at the factory. This is the proper working pressure and
should be checked with a suitable gauge placed in the
indicated area of the pump.
1.18)
The oil tank must be installed on a substantial footing to
avoid settling and the foundation must be of non-flammable
material. A manual shut-off valve and oil filter must be
installed in the oil supply line located at the outlet of the oil
tank. Use the proper size of oil supply lines for
installation. Consult the latest C.S.A. code and supplements
for the installation of oil burning equipment. An oil return line
must be used on an installation where the oil level of the tank
is below the burner. This return line must be the same size
as the suction line.
At the beginning of each heating season or once each year,
verify The complete oil distribution system must be checked
for oil leaks on an annual basis.
1.19)
Normally, air infiltration into the dwelling is adequate for the
provision of necessary combustion and ventilation air. When
the unit is installed in a room under a high negative
condition, provisions should be made for an outside source
of combustion air. In the case of an inside partition, two
openings are required one near the floor and the other near
the ceiling. Each opening should have a minimum area of
one square inch per 1000 BTU/H, free of any obstruction. In
the case of an outside wall, one opening is required. This
opening must be protected by a louver, to prevent snow or
rain penetration. A minimum area of one square inch per
5000 BTU/H, free of any obstruction, is required.
1.20)
The fuel oil should not be heavier than No. 2 furnace oil.
Do not use gasoline, crankcase drainings or any oil
containing gasoline.
