Ionisation smoke detector for duct mounting
SDD-S50 and SDD-S65 are ionising smoke detectors intended for
smoke detection in ventilation systems. They are intended for use
together with Regin's ABV-300 series of control units. The control
units act as power supply for the detectors and also as alarm output
units. One control unit can supervise several detectors.
SDD-S50 which has a service alarm function should be connected
to an ABV-S-300/D or an ABV24-S-300/D.
SDD-S65 without the service alarm function should be connected to
an ABV-300/D or an ABV24-300/D.
Installation
Make a 30mm hole at a suitable location on the duct using the
supplied template as an aid. The unit should be mounted at least
3 ductdiameters away from bends, air intakes or other sources of
disturbance to the airflow in the duct.
Remove the enclosure lid and remove the detector head which is
bayonet mounted. Mount the venturi tube by removing the screw
from the tube's unclosed end, stick the end of the tube into the hole
in the bottom of the enclosure with the holes in the tube aligned with
the enclosure's longitudinal axis. Fasten the screw through the hole
in the PC-board. Replace the detector head. For round ducts and for
insulated ducts special mounting brackets are available as an extra
accessory.
To shorten the venturi tube remove the endplate and gasket from
the tube's outer end, shorten the tube making sure to cut it at right
angles and remount gasket and plate.
Temporarily replace the lid oriented so that the LED on the detector
head is visible through the window.
Put the tube through the hole in the duct, orient the unit so that the
arrows on the lid point in the flow direction and fasten the unit to the
duct using the mounting "wings". For round ducts the wings can be
bent to fit the duct curvature.
Wiring
Supply voltage
The detector is wired to the control unit through a two-wire current
loop. The loop is closed by connecting the supplied 2.2 kOhm end
resistor. N.B. If the loop contains more than one detector the end
resistor should only be mounted in the last detector in the loop. If the
loop lacks an end resistor or if there is more than one resistor, the
control unit will give an alarm.
Wire the detector according to the wiring diagram.
INSTRUCTIONS
Auxiliary fan
Supply voltage 24 V AC. Terminals 3 and 4. Not polarised.
SDD-S50M and SDD-S65M contain an auxiliary fan to ensure
an airflow through the detector housing even when the ventila-
tion system is shut down. To ensure maximum length of life the
auxiliary fan should be wired so that it runs only when the main
ventilation fan is shut off.
Function indicators
Flow indicator
The unit has a built-in flow detector, a red plastic strip placed
across the fresh air inlet. When the unit is functioning correctly
the incoming airflow will bend the strip slightly, thus indicating
that there is a flow through the housing.
Smoke alarm
The detector head has a built-in LED for alarm indication. The
LED is normally extinguished but will light up red at a smoke
alarm. An alarm signal is also sent to the control unit.
Service alarm
SDD-S50 contains a service alarm function that monitors the
slow long-time contamination of the detector. When the detector
has become so dirty that there is risk of false alarms it will trigger
a service alarm. The LED will light up red. A service alarm signal
is also sent to the control unit.
Function test
The housing has a hole with a red plastic plug to simplify testing
with test gas. Avoid spraying gas directly onto the detector head
and only use small amounts at a time to avoid unnecessary
contamination of the detector.
Maintenance
The detector should be tested and cleaned on a yearly basis
to ensure proper function. Cleaning of the venturi tubes, the
housing and the outside of the detector head can be done using
a vacuum cleaner.
N.B. Do not try to disassemble the detector head for cleaning.
EMC emissions & immunity standards
This product conforms with the requirements of European
EMC standards CENELEC EN 50081-1 and EN 50082-1 and
carries the CE mark.
