2.0 General
Flojet Industrial G70 series pumps are designed for general commercial and industrial ap-
plications. These pumps are constructed from a selection of materials suited for handling a
broad range of chemicals. The ATEX safety manual applies to all Flojet G70 series pumps
and offers instructions for safe installation, operation, inspection, and maintenance of pumps
that are used in hazardous environments or ATEX classified areas. Please note that these
instructions may not have taken into account local health and safety codes and regulations.
It is imperative that all pertinent regulations and plant safety requirements are followed by
all personnel involved with the installation, operation, use and maintenance of the product
in any region worldwide. The equipment must not be put in service until all local health and
safety conditions have been met. The user must ensure that only authorized and trained per-
sonnel are involved to install, operate, inspect and maintain the pump.
2.1 ATEX DIRECTIVE 94/9/EC
In certain regions of the world, it is a legal requirement to comply with the applicable safety
standards of the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC when putting the product into service. To verify the
product designation for use in a Potentially Explosive Environment, check the nameplate of
the pump for the specific marking of explosion protection "Ex" followed by the symbol of
the equipment group and category. The user is responsible for utilizing the product only in
the zone identified and classified on the pump nameplate. Where applicable this document
includes relevant safety aspects from the ATEX Directives.
2.2 DISCLAIMER
The information contained in this manual is believed to be reliable and is given in good
faith. In spite of all efforts of Xylem Inc. to provide sound and complete information, the
content of this manual is not guaranteed by Xylem Inc. as to its completeness or accura-
cy. The recommendations provided in this document are based on ATEX product safety
standards and does not cover specific solvents or specific applications. Users are re-
sponsible for making their own analysis based on their own solvent usage, and should
reach their own conclusions based on all data and information available to them.
2.3 PERSONNEL TRAINING
All personnel involved in the operation, installation, inspection and maintenance of the
equipment must have appropriate knowledge and skill of potentially explosive atmospheres
and of the relevant risks. If the personnel do not have the necessary knowledge and skill, then
appropriate training and instructions must be provided.
3.0 ATEX Safety
3.1 SUMMARY OF SAFETY MARKING
The ATEX safety mark is used in these instructions to identify where non-compliance
in the hazardous area would increase the risk of an explosion.
This symbol is the explosive atmosphere marking according to ATEX and is
used throughout this document to identify safety measures needed to prevent
the risk of explosion.
3.2 PRODUCTS USED IN POTENTIALLY EXPLOSIVE ATMOSPHERES
To avoid potentially explosive atmospheres the following measures are required:
•
Avoid excess temperature
•
Prevent build-up of explosive mixtures
•
Inhibit spark and/or heat generation
•
Prevent leaks of process fluids.
•
Maintain the pump and related equipment to avoid hazard
DANGER: Pumps that are installed in potentially explosive atmospheres must fol-
low the safety instructions stated in this manual to help ensure explosion protection.
The requirements of European Directive 94/9/EC applies to both electrical and non-
electrical equipment. Failure to follow these instructions could result in explosion,
property damage, severe personal injury and/or death.
3.3 SCOPE OF COMPLIANCE
Use the product only in the Ex zone for which it is rated for. Always ensure that
the pumps and all other equipment within the system are properly rated and/
or certified for the classification of the specific atmosphere in which they are
installed.
