Service
• Have the power tool serviced by qualified service personnel, using only identical replacement parts. This will ensure that the safety of the power tool is
maintained.
• Never attempt to repair damaged battery packs on your own. Service of battery packs should only be performed by the manufacturer or authorized service
technicians.
Safety instructions for angle grinders
• This power tool is intended to function as a grinder or cut-off tool.
• Operations such as sanding, wire brushing, polishing are not recommended to be performed with this power tool. Using the power tool to perform tasks
others than the ones it is meant to perform may create a hazard and cause personal injury.
• Do not use accessories which are not specifically designed and recommended by the tool manufacturer. Safe operation is not assured just because an
accessory can be attached to the power tool.
• The rated speed of the accessory must be at least equal to the maximum speed marked on the power tool. Accessories running faster than their rated speed
can break and eject out of the tool.
• The outside diameter and the thickness of any given accessory must be within the capacity rating of the power tool. Incorrectly sized accessories cannot be
adequately guarded or controlled.
• Threaded mounting of accessories must match the grinder spindle thread. For accessories mounted by flanges, the arbour hole of the accessory must fit
the locating diameter of the flange. Accessories that do not match the mounting hardware of the power tool will vibrate excessively and may cause loss of
control.
• Do not use a damaged accessory. Before each use inspect the accessory such as abrasive wheels for chips and cracks, backing pad for cracks, tear or excess
wear, wire brush for loose or cracked wires. If the power tool or accessory is dropped, inspect for damage or install an undamaged accessory. After inspecting
and installing an accessory, position yourself away from the moving part, ensure that bystanders are at a safe distance from the moving part and then run
the power tool at the maximum no load speed for one minute.
• Damaged accessories will normally break apart during this test time.
• Wear personal protective equipment. Depending on application, use a face shield, safety goggles or safety glasses. As appropriate, wear a dust mask, hearing
protectors, gloves and protective clothes capable of stopping small abrasive or workpiece fragments. The eye protection must be capable of stopping flying
debris generated during operation. The dust mask or respirator must be capable of filtrating particles generated during operation. Prolonged exposure to
high intensity noise may cause hearing loss.
• Keep bystanders at a safe distance away from work area. Anyone entering the work area must wear personal protective equipment.
• Fragments of a workpiece or of a broken accessory may eject at high speeds and cause injury beyond the immediate area of operation.
• Hold the power tool by insulated gripping surfaces only. Contact with a "live" wire will also make exposed metal parts of the power tool "live" and could give
the operator an electric shock.
• Never lay the power tool down until the accessory has come to a complete stop. The operator may lose control of the power tool as a result of the spinning
accessory touching the ground.
• Do not run the power tool while carrying it at your side. Accidental contact with the spinning accessory could snag your clothing, pulling the accessory into
your body.
• Regularly clean the power tool's air vents. The motor's fan will draw the dust inside the housing and excessive accumulation of powdered metal may cause
electrical hazards.
• Do not operate the power tool near flammable materials. Sparks could ignite these materials.
• Do not use accessories that require liquid coolants. Using water or other liquid coolants may result in electrocution or shock.
• During operation, grab the handle. Always use the auxiliary handles supplied with the tool. Loss of control can cause personal injury.
• Use only grinding wheels that are recommended for the power tool and the specific guard designed for the selected wheel.
• The guard must be securely attached to the power tool and positioned in such a way as to maximize safety, so the least amount of wheel is exposed towards
the operator.
• Grinding wheels must be used only for recommended applications.
• Always use undamaged wheel flanges that are of correct size and shape for your selected wheel.
• Do not use grinding wheels intended for larger power tools.
• Do not apply excessive pressure on the workpiece with the grinding wheel. Do not force the power tool to cut excessively deep.
• When the wheel is stuck or when interrupting a cut for any reason, switch off the power tool and hold it motionless until the wheel comes to a complete
stop. Never attempt to remove the cut-off wheel from the workpiece while the wheel is in motion otherwise kickback may occur.
• Ensure that the grinding wheel is not touching any surface before turning it on.
• Always let the grinding wheel reach full speed before attempting to cut with it.
• Make slow movements towards the workpiece while cutting.
• Supports must be placed under large workpieces and near their edges to minimize the risk of kickback.
• Use extra caution when cutting into walls or other areas where gas or water pipes may be hidden. Contact of the grinding wheel with a hidden gas or water
pipe can cause kickback.
Kickback
Kickback can cause severe and even fatal accidents. Kickback occurs when the angle grinder grabs or jams on the workpiece when cutting. This causes the
rotating accessory to rapidly stall and in turn causes the power tool to move in the direction opposite of the accessory's rotation. Kickback can cause the
operator to lose control of the tool, and it can hit the worker or get dropped, causing foot and leg injuries.
Kickback is the result of power tool misuse and can be avoided by taking the proper precautions given below:
• Maintain a firm grip on the power tool and position your body and arm in such a way as to increase the degree of control you have on the power tool in case
kickback occurs. Always use the auxiliary handle, if provided, for maximum control over kickback or torque reactions during start-up.
• Keep your hands away from the rotating accessory.
• Do not position your body in the area where the power tool will move if kickback occurs.
• Use special care when working corners, sharp edges etc.
• Do not attach a saw chain, woodcarving blade or toothed saw blade to the power tool.
