1. Lower exhaust– Using an exhaust hanger removal tool, lower exhaust muffler by removing (2) rearmost rubber hangers, per side. A spray of lubricant or soapy water on
rubber hangers makes them slide off metal pins more easily. NOTE: Be sure that exhaust is properly supported before removing rubber hangers.
2. Remove heat shield – Using 10 mm socket remove (4) bolts from each heat shield, per side. Remove heat shields.
3. Drill & enlarge holes – Raise the hitch into position and align it with rear attachment holes on both sides. Use marker to mark a drill point at the center of forward
attachment holes of hitch brackets. Make sure the hitch sits straight while drill locations are marked. Lower the hitch down and use hand drill to drill 1/2'' holes for forward
attachment holes on both sides. Using the same drill enlarge the rear attachment holes to 1/2" on both sides.
4. Install hitch - Feed the carriage bolts ① and spacers ② to attachment holes through access holes using the pull wires ⑤, see Figures 1 & 2. Leave pull wires attached.
Raise the hitch into position and feed the pull wires through bracket holes. Remove pull wires and loosely install conical washers ③ and hex nuts ④ to the hitch.
5. Trim heat shield – Using a tape measure, marker & tin snip, measure, mark, and trim the area on the heat shields as shown in Figure 3 (driver side heat shield) & Figure 4
(passenger side heat shield).
6. Tighten all 7/16"-14x1.50 Gr5 fasteners with torque wrench to 50 ft.lb. (68 N*m).
7. Reinstall heat shields and exhaust mufflers.
Note: check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust
fumes. A hitch or ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or
attachment holes with a torch. This product complies with safety specifications and requirements for connecting devices and towing systems of the state of New York, V.E.S.C. Regulation V-5 and
SAE J684.
