Operation
Operating Conditions
WARNING
To prevent the risk of battery explosion, use and keep the
battery in an area with good airflow, away from sparks,
open flames, or excessive heat.
WARNING
Do not use the equipment if the battery becomes wet
or flooded with water. Contact an Authorized Battery
Service Dealer for instructions.
WARNING
Electrolytes from the battery can cause blindness and
burns. DO NOT use the battery if there is damage,
leakage or burns. DO NOT use the battery if you hear
unusual noises, see smoke, or smell odors. DO NOT use
the battery if the casing is cracked, gashed, bulging, or
warped.
DO NOT use the battery outside of the normal operating
range of -4°F to 140°F (-20°C to +60°C).
Vibration
The equipment where the battery is installed could cause
vibration.
DO NOT bump or hit the battery. Keep the battery away from
hard objects.
Water
Do not operate the battery if it is put in water. If the battery
has been put in water, contact an Authorized Battery Service
Dealer for instructions.
Battery Charging
WARNING
Only use with OEM or Vanguard
as specified in the CHARGING section. Unapproved
chargers can result in battery failure, fire or explosion.
Before you use the charger, completely read,
understand, and obey all the requirements as specified in
the manufacturer's battery charger Operator's Manual.
The recommended ambient charge temperature range is 32
°F to 122 °F (0 °C to 50 °C). Battery charging at 14 °F to 32
°F (-10 °C to 0 °C) could cause derating of device operation.
DO NOT discharge or charge the battery outside the specified
temperature range, or accelerated battery degradation could
occur.
If an unusual smell comes from the battery, or looks
abnormal, immediately stop the battery charge.

Transport
WARNING
When you move the battery, do not touch the external
terminals. Contact could cause a short circuit and result
in a fire or explosion.
WARNING
The battery is heavy. When you move or lift the battery,
use the correct lifting devices and safe procedures.
Do not remove the battery from the equipment for transport.
Refer to the equipment manufacturer's manual for transport
instructions.

Maintenance and Service

NOTE: When servicing the battery, ALWAYS first remove the
multi-pin communication connector.
WARNING
The battery has a risk of high short circuit current.
• Remove watches, rings, or other metal objects.
• Wear safety glasses or approved eye protection when
you work near the battery.
• Use tools that have insulated handles.
• Disconnect the charging source before you connect or
disconnect the battery terminals.
• Do not put tools or metal parts on top of batteries.
WARNING
Do not tighten the battery cable connections too tight. If
the cable connections are too tight, damage to the
internal circuitry can occur and cause arcing that can
result in fire and/or explosion. See SPECIFICATIONS for
battery terminal torque.
NOTICE All service must be done by an Authorized Service
Dealer.
Before all equipment maintenance, do the steps that follow:
1. Turn off the equipment.
2. Disconnect the round, center-located, multi-pin
connector.
3. Disconnect the charger.
4. Make sure that zero voltage is present across the red
and black terminals.
NOTICE If voltage is present, wait one hour and check it
again. If voltage remains present, immediately contact an
Authorized Battery Service Dealer for instructions.
5. Annually, do a complete charge and discharge cycle.
